A 12 month rolling contract is a permanent position. It never runs out. Today, there is 12 months left on it. Tomorrow there will be 12 months left on it, the day after there will be...

A 3 year contract ends in three years. Tomorrow it ends in 2 years 364 days, the day after 2 years 363 days...

Both a 12 month rolling contract and a 3 year contract can have clauses inserted that state how much compensation the manager will receive if we sack him and how much compensation the club will receive if he goes elsewhere.
