do you think the three players would have left.... or been allowed to leave? If the answer to either is yes then there's more of a problem than we imagine. (I know it's a futile question but it has been bugging me)
Chance of a playoff place with us on 5k a week with only 4 months left on their contract . or Chance to earn 20-30k a week somewhere else on a 3 year deal . It's a tough one !!
If we had offered to double or treble their wages in the summer and told them your not going anywhere until the end of the season. Do think they would have signed a contract or played the season out on their original wage.
If we'd have trebled James Bree's wage he'd have been on £2,250 a week . Bet he was rubbing his chin .
Most players were on less than 2k per week. In the summer Bree didn't know how well he was going to perform in the championship. If he was on such a low wage we could have offered to quadruple or more. My point is these players should have been told they would have to see out their contracts and made to think about the extra they could earn over the next 12 months. No one was offering these players huge sums in the summer
I don't believe most players were on less than 2k last summer, a few maybe yes but not most . I'm sure most people could see that Bree would easily be good enough for the Championship. I think because of where we have come from a lot of people think the Championship was some kind of second prem , well it isn't and thats why most of our league 1 team made the transition easily . The past is the past and we should learn by it . Get Robbo/Gus/Scowen/Marley/Yids on good contracts or we'll go back to square one. It's a simple science really .
I was under the impression we had a wage structure of max 2k pw. Which we broke to sign Hammill. unfortunatley i feel the chance to sign up the best part of our squad was last summer. Most of these players have now proved they can perform at this level and know they can earn far more than we can offer. We will have a mass exodus of both contracted and out of cantract players. Although apparently scowen wife wants him to stay
I would imagine 2 grand a week would be the wage payed to a fringe player, regular bench warmer with maybe 5 or 6 appearances over the course of the season. 888 sport reckon the average wage at #teamslikebarnsley is 10 geand a week. I doubt it but i'd imagine 5 grand would be closer to the mark plus bonus.
Roberts on 1500 really? Thats what he should be getting pre sky hyper wage inflation. Thats definately a league 2 wage.
If the players are on such small wages then the newcastle, leeds, villa, huddersfield and weds away crowds will pay them all!.. so the rest of the money?
Nothing like that. Last time we were in the championship we gradually cut our cloth & when we got relegated the top earners were Steele, O'Grady & Cranie on around £6-7,000 a week. Our top earners in league one were on around £4,000 with bonuses. The club then broke its wage structure in the summer to resign Hammill who's on about £7,000. Before anyone asks I've got no proof & can't back up any of these figures only what I've been told by someone who tends to get a lot right. I did get told that a Scottish striker we had on loan who had a coke habit was been paid £10,000 a week by us a few years back. Scary if true & makes you understand the route the clubs took in terms of bringing in young, hungry players with sell on potential
1500 quid a week is an hell of a lot of money to sign a 5th division non league football player with zero league one experience. But if we were to sign him up now with a promotion on his CV and having shown he can cut the mustard at championship level I would imagine that would need quadrupling and that it still wouldn't be enough.
But had we trebled it in the summer like a few of our players who we should have put some faith into. It wouldn't have broke the bank and They may well have signed
Wednesday match is all I can focus on. If we beat those c@@ts & they miss promotion & Sam Winnall sits there with splinters in his arse watching, then I'll be happy for at least a week.
