Grab a pair of binoculars and take a drive up into the hills. The visibility today is great. I've just driven along Woodhead Rd between Grenoside and Wortley. Breathtaking. Can see for miles. Wish I'd had time to stop. Wouldn't be surprised if you can pick out York Minster.
There's also a road between Penistone and Holmbridge (Holmfirth) Can see right over towards Burnley up there.

I could see the peak district from my bedroom window at home. Unfortunately, I've moved out and am currently sat in an office in the middle of Birmingham. Grim.

you can't see Burnley from the tops of Holmfirth - Halifax gets in the way -

(why would anyone want to see Burnley anyway?)

Substitute Lake district and Chapeltown for Snowdonia and Doncaster, I'm with you all the way.

I didn't say you could see Burnley, I said you could see over towards that way. In my instance, this is significant because my parents and Grandparents are buried over there. [IMG]

No, unfortunately that is not likely to be in the near future.
