of those fans who have an encyclopaedic (sp) knowledge of BFC performance - they're the ones who can reel off the team names - the scorers - the weather - etc for every match going back for decades. What I'd like to know is do these 'brains' have the same capacity for recall of other events in their past lives or is it just football?
I don't know how I could be tested. Although I used to do the wages for the likes of the posters t'owd man & tingleytyke (for example) when I was the Payroll manager in the steel industry, so perhaps they could give an answer on that score. On the other hand, I'm certain my family would insist I'm extremely forgetful!
I said exactly the same thing to a mate of mine at half-time at a windy Brisbane Road in January 1982 while queuing for a 25p Bovril and listening to the Stranglers Golden Brown over the tannoy before going back for the 2nd half to see Aylott curl the winner into the top right-hand corner. I was going to mention this earlier but I couldn't remember my password.
Yes but I can't remember who got the first. I think Banks made it 2-0, they pulled one back and Aylott finished it. I'd been to an all-night party in Brixton so forgive me for not remembering the scorer of the first.
I've got a good memory for the old games, sometimes I get a bit mixed up but generally it's still in there. Same with life as well. I forget very little from back in the day, but not so much more recent things.
I have a few mates that I travel to away games with, that are older than me. One is early 60s, and we never run out of stuff to talk about en route. The stories of travelling to games during the Clark and Hunter era are brilliant. I went to the local derbies on the special but they did all the far ones.
Oh, they were, old mate. After years of travelling up and down the country witnessing some of the worst football imaginable at such footballing outposts as Workington, Southport, Marine & Rhyl, it was an utter joy seeing winning, entertaining Barnsley teams with outstanding, quality players. On the other hand, some of the coaches we travelled on were unbelievably cold, uncomfortable and slow!
Unbelievable memory, I used to phone Kev to sort out any problems with the wages of my team, as soon as I said a name he knew the clock number. I spoke to him 100's of times but never met him till a fans forum when Danny came back, as soon as I introduced myself he reeled off my clock number and I'd been retired since 2005.
Oh dear , me thinks you protest too much . Perhaps you are jealous of our older memories of bfc footy .
I would have called you Rain Man but the frightening vision of you in your leotard still lives in my memory and that stopped me taking liberties.
Same with me. Remember doing a quiz on the coach on way down to Wembley in 2000 - scored 45 out of 50. Next one had low 20's - remember stuff like this
My oldest mate has a fantastic memory for everything. He's lost his sight due to a condition and as it deteriorated he went from working as a guard on the trains to working in the ticket office as they tried to accommodate him for as long as possible. He knew all the train times and destinations off the top of his head, and he's the same with football. He's always been sharp like that but I often wonder if he's become more so since his sight went.
