Good interview and some interesting points. 17 minutes too which is probably double the norm, so fair play to him for answering the questions. Perhaps the most interesting thing for me, he was asked several times if he'd been offered a contract, if there were talks, if he would sign if offered etc He very succinctly batted them all away, merely suggesting at the end of the season he'd sit down with the owners and see where they are at, but he was focussing on the next 15 games. Said he'd enjoyed (past tense) his 5 years and some good memories. I can understand players wanting to see what division we might be in come next season, but the club could quite easily insert a clause to cover promotion and an uplift in salary. Will be interesting to see how it pans out. If we want to improve the goalkeeper and aren't keen on him being number 1 if we go up, if he doesn't want to commit until he knows we've gone up a division, or he's had better offers already or just wants a change.
All speculation, but if it is him waiting to see what division were in before he commits to us, then id withdraw any offer on the table and move him on at the end of the season.
I think if we get promoted we may be looking for another keeper. He has been outstanding this season & overall has been a good keeper. Last year the lack of backup cover meant he was played when out of form for too long & then replaced with substandard players too late. That is not really his fault. Most keepers have a dip of confidence at some stage & the players around him were having similar problems, lead by a lunatic in Morais.
I think judging his avoidance of the topic he’s looking to move on for a different challenge. Guessing it’s all about the wages on offer.
If it was that situation and he were holding out to see what league were in I really would, hardly antagonising him id remove anything on the table and say well enter negotiations in the summer then, meanwhile looking for a replacement. Like I said its all speculation. Cant expect the club to leave the contract on the table for months, we need these things tying up. replacements brought in where needed.
Don’t blame him looking elsewhere. He’s been a great servent for the club, watched previous success being sold/given away in front of him and taken some ridiculous unjustified criticism from some of our support. Hope he stays but if he did go it would be with my thanks and gratitude.
I’ve been thinking that the longer it goes on the more likely it is that he’s leaving. However, waiting until the end of the season clears that up. I think, at this level, Davies is a good keeper. I still wish he’d come for more crosses within his 6 yard box but his shot stopping is excellent and his distribution has vastly improved this season. Whatever happens, Adam has been a great servant to the club and I will look back at his spell with fondness whenever he does leave. “He used to be a dee dah but he’s alright now”
Best keeper in this league and has shown he's capable at the level above. I hope he signs an extension.
Tricky for him really. But he’ll only move by his own accord if he’s guaranteed first team football in the Champ or L1 for better money. In which I mean he’ll turn a contract down with us to go. As a keeper it’s difficult to reclaim a #1 spot at another club unless their keeper has left too. First choice in a Champ club is his top level, I don’t think he’d make it at PL. For me, I’d have him signed up - Walton has missed a lot this season due to injury, and to consolidate in the Champ, you need a reliable keeper who has done it already. Don’t unsettle a decent back 5 basically.
Maybe he just wants to be 'loved' by us a bit more. For some on here he can't do owt right but for me he's had an excellent season. If we had signed a new 'keeper in the summer whose name wasn't Adam Davies and he had played like Adam has this season he'd be getting near universal acclaim now.
He's done well this season, however should we get promoted IMO we would need a new first choice goalkeeper as he isn't good enough as a number 1 in the championship. Wouldn't mind him staying and providing back up as a number 2.
