I see it as a positive, the championship has certainly moved on since we were last here, with the current ownership survival is really the only option, maybe time to push on.

There's one massive positive I can see from a takeover....

We might be able to sign Matty James on a permanent deal

    However.

That success has seen other clubs sit up and take notice.

Other clubs are looking at similar so inevitable that we might have to tweak a bit as other clubs start to look at the same players we have.

We might have been successful at it but we can't necessarily move forward by standing still and sticking to exactly the same. We are blown out of the water at this level for wages and it's only a matter of time before we are blown out of the same water for players lower down.

I suspect as soon as another team hears of the interest of barnsley. They must sit up and think. Aye aye. Wonder what this kids about then. Then blow us out the water again.

I can't find a suitable link at present, but for another takeover nightmare, read about Morecambe FC.

They had a Brazillian chap buy the club last summer, who then promptly did absolutely nothing. That includes the payment of player and staff wages. He'd been the club owner for little more than a month when he stopped accepting the chairman's phone calls.

For every Roman Abramovic or even that Chansiri fella, there's half a dozen Venky's, Chellino's Oyston's.

It's finding the right bloke. We'd be better going for someone who's a decent track record in football, rather than a billionaire wannabe football owner.

This is exactly the point - with bells on!

Warren Joyce knew what we did with kids from his time at Man Utd. I strongly suspect that played a part in our failing to secure Sam Morsy.

This is the answer to the 'steady as she goes' merchants (naming no names!)

Recent case in point, Bobby Hassell fixes up a trial for Cohen Bramall, Hednesford left-back. Next minute he's been signed by Arsenal!

But who is there with a decent track record who is prepared to chuck money at us?

Maybe that Jeremy Peace chap who was at West Brom?

All in all, it's not nailed on they'd be bad. Suck it and see

There are, of course links with Barnsley and China in the shape of James Hudson Taylor who was a protestant missionary who did a lot of work in China and made great efforts to integrate in to the communities he worked in which is why he is particularly revered by some Chinese. He spent his early years in Barnsley and there are numerous plaques dotted around the town marking places he was associated with. I know a few years ago there were efforts being made to try and market Barnsley as a tourist destination for Chinese Christians. It wouldn't be the most unlikeliest of possibilities especially with Sheffield pitching heavily to bring Chinese investment in to the city region.

I'm not against a takeover or further invrstment in the slightest. I just feel we'd benefit more from a British based takeover as opposed to one from China or India. Someone who knows the game, has connections within the English game etc.

A bit of fuel to the fire, which probably means its just coincidence.

I was down at oakwell yesterday evening watching my son represent Dodworth St Johns primary in the bruce and bobby football comp (he is playing in the final at half time at oakwell today, good luck young un) . While there 3 blokes come walking onto the academy pitches, one was definately a oriental chap, where the lads and lasses were playing and i jokingly said to my father that these must be potential new owners having a look around. My dad did laugh but also said "you never know, the guy in the middle is barry taylor"....

Probably means bugger all but just thought i would join in :D

The core of the promotion team was British, with three astute signings from abroad. I don't have any issues with that whatsoever. What I don't want to see is a team comprised of mostly foreign players, like Watford have. We play in the English league, and while a team of lads from Barnsley and the surrounding area is probably not realistic, a team of MOSTLY British players most definitely is. Maybe other people would be fine with us fielding a team comprised completely of players from around the globe. For me, something would definitely be lost.

    Seconded.
As I've posted recently- I'm expecting a new owner before the start of the new season.
Hence the delay in appointing a new Cheif Executive.

I think the club will be attracting potential buyers - but Patrick IMO will be vetting them to ensure they are right for the club.

I dont get this thread at all. Someone spouts a bit of speculation on social media without any proof of substance & next thing we are suddenly getting taken over, what a load of tosh. Give me some cast iron evidence, then otherwise, it is pure speculation.

Definitely. And they'll only contain either sweet and sour chicken's feet, or fermented eggs.

It's just a shame there is no balance left in football. Best case scenario would be a mega wealthy investor coming in and splitting the ownership with a relatively wealthy local person/family.

Suppose the potential financial rewards on offer for reaching the top flight puts that sort of thing out of the equation.

Fact is that as soon as your club is beholden to someone who see's the club as a purely financial/entertainment project then you really lose the soul and fans 'ownership' of the club. Look what happened with Doyle in administration....

People go on about hating Premiership and the money and ridiculous wages, yet in the same breath clamour for a rich(er) investor.
