I’ve always thought there would be a high risk of England fans clashing with the Russian police but after the overnight raids in Syria it now seems nailed on to happen. I fear our fans will be the target for one of the ‘consequences’ the Russians threaten

This. I genuinely don't believe anyone not looking for a scrap will go in the end. They will get more than they bargained for as well.

I think Russia will go off with minimal fuss. The government will not want the international embarrassment of not being able to control the hooligans. Very different to when their hooligans attack other fans in other countries as that shows the police in those countries as weak.

However still think you’d be slightly bonkers to go there during the football. Is a shame though. Russia is a beautiful country, with some great people. Just like our government doesn’t reflect all of us, the Russian government doesn’t represent all Russians.

No, but it will be overhyped as per and probably go off trouble free. I went to the 2006 World Cup and the Euros in 2000, planning on going to the Qatar world cup if we get there.

The same government that was supporting state sponsored doping? Their 'hooligans' had Kremlin links. Very naive that.

I know that. Their government is as bad as it gets. My point is that on home soil they will control it. We’ll just have to watch and see. Nothing happens in Russia without Kremlin agreement, hooligans included. i just personally think they will want a World Cup to go off smoothly.

Aye perhaps. I agree there'll only be trouble if they want trouble. Also know I'd not be banking on them wanting a smooth world cup by attending

1936 Berlin Olympics... similar type of thing. The Nazis wanted to show the friendly side of their regime whilst in the background the first concentration and prison camps were being set up.
Perhaps Putin will show a smiling face to the world. Goodness knows what goes on in the shadows.

The Russians aren't as stupid as our lot are. They won't do anything when the eyes of the world are on them expecting it.

To answer your question...if May and Trump get their way and Russia retaliate over Syria I think we may see more than football fans going to Russia. .. regardless of if they want to go or not ...unfortunately

I wouldn't go to it even if it were being held in Dodeth.

Arsenal were in Russia the other night and nothing happened. The away fans were treated with great hospitality from what I read of those there.

No but I'm going to recreate the experience of being a travelling England fan by getting smashed in my back garden and then throwing the patio furniture at the neighbours
