This plan we have of getting youngsters in training them up and selling them on for profit had been working well up to January last year... We have seen a downturn in results since then and the players we lost were instrumental in promotion and our league position at the beginning of January.

Coupled with the loss of Robert's Scowen and Watkins over the summer we seem to be struggling for any leadership or experience to get through games.

Last night and Saturday someone with that bit of experience could have calmed things down and we could have kept the ball better and seen it out but we don't have that player and we invite pressure.

If and when this takeover gets completed I hope they bring some experience in that we desperately need. I'm not knocking the plan Cryne has had for us over the last few seasons it's balanced the books and won us promotion but in this division as we've seen from February onwards you can't keep rebuilding year on year with youngsters who lack experience.

it would still work if they sold one or two per season MAX and not at the same time, instead of flogging the whole team in a fire sale

All down to contracts and how we set them up and when they expire. Hopefully, we have a few staggered now.

dont think it would hurt to sign one or two players who don't have a resale value. Surly we could have signed an experienced striker rather than go with the 3 we have now.

I wasn't COGs biggest fan but if we're gonna play with these tactics we may as well have signed him. I'm sure he would have done no worse and can at least hold the ball up

No, it's time for new owners with the ability/willingness to keep those players developed on longer contracts and not be trying to build an entire new team every season. Sell when it suits us and doesn't destroy a team and make the Head Coach's position nigh on impossible.

Do you wish we had deviated from the plan in December 2015 when we were rock bottom of League 1?

What, like we did in signing Adam Hammill?

    Good point.

Who's the Hammill of 2017? A CM? Or an experienced striker?

We need 3. CB, CM & Adam himself. Happy with young strikers. If we'd got McBurnie we'd have been OK up top. Experience in & in front of the back four. Said this at start of season. Gardiner, if he comes back may be that CM for now. You can't have 2 kids with less than 20 championship games at CB. One yes.

We talk about the 'plan' as if it's been in place for years and years. We're closing in on the second full year, starting the third season where this has been our recruitment plan. In that time, one excellent team came to fruition and was then dismantled. I'd argue that this is only our second proper attempt at building a new team to develop. If we're serious about pursuing this recruitment strategy, we have to give it a lot more time to allow players to develop. Let's not just jump back to signing anyone and everyone.

That said, any considered, responsible business plan must allow deviations from the main strategy where necessary. We could sign two experienced players and still be absolutely following the plan as a whole. The WHOLE team doesn't have to have re-sale value. We need to box clever, carry on trying to do things our way but recognise opportunities/needs to mediate where necessary.
