i find it rather ironic that you have chosen to reply to two posts in this thread

and you've complained about 'gay jokes' in both replies (not including all thoses after your initial replies) yet neither of the posts you replied to had any gay jokes or requests for gay jokes

 

Can we just clarify one thing.....

he wasn't a musician - committed or otherwise. He sang backing vocals on a few covers.

He seemed like a nice bloke but let's not make out the world has lost a great musical talent.

but can someone post a list of what is and isnt acceptable?

Michael Jackson jokes were met with no criticism and he had a family who may have been offended. What is the difference with stephen gately? The only argument I have seen against making jokes is that he was gay which in itself seems homophobic

I wouldn't say I'm short sighted - just disinterested in a group doing Andrew Lloyd Webber and Osmonds cover versions.

 

the voice is an instrument, not all of their songs were covers and you were wrong to say he was a backing singer.

Well, I agree with your last sentence to a degree, but as he co-wrote songs and got paid to sing, itwould strongly indicate the term 'musician' is factually accurate. I didn't care for any of his songs nor will I mourn his passing, but let's get the facts straight.</p>

 

I never said he was a talented musician or that the music world would suffer for his passing. I didn't even comment on whether he was any good or not but like plankton pete says below he was paid to sing for a living and he wrote songs. Surely that makes you a musician.
