If there was no god then we wouldn’t be living in God’s own county......... Game, set and match I think
I can’t stop thinking about the end of Men in Black when the aliens are playing marbles and earth is one of them. We could be part of something much much bigger so big we can’t see/comprehend it. Nobody can explain how life started on earth, did it start naturally or was it started artificially ? If it’s the latter then by what/whom ? At some point I’m sure that science will find the answer ( if we’re still here). In the meantime I’ll continue to worship Kylie.
No I don't think there is a god. There's just too much science that disagrees with what is essentially just a book. The evidence of science experiments that can be recreated and the same results found versus blind faith in the words written in an ancient book. However I understand how and why faith and religion can be a good thing. It gives people a sense of hope and comfort to many and also has good messages of how to behave in a moral and right way. On the flip side I believe that original purpose of religion was to control people and to promote certain people to power and keep them there and it's this that causes war, murder and other evils in this world. The solution for me is to stop any religion from having any actual power. No laws based upon religion etc and they should focus entirely on the good and not the bad. Some do this better than others but it's no coincidence that the ones which do it better are mainly in countries and areas with better infrastructure and more freedom in general whilst the ones who still maintain at least an element of focus on the bad aspects are in areas of oppression. It's all about that control
The current Mrs Churtonred has a faded tattoo on her shoulder of a Unicorn on a cliff edge with a sunset in the background. It looks more like a goat playing footy with a beachball now to be honest. She wants it redoing and I've suggested her changing it to one of Ronnie. So far she's not coming round to my way of thinking.
"There is no god, and that's the simple truth. If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created exactly that way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all of science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it all out again." Penn Jillette.
Sadly; that kind of received wisdom is now being replaced on the internet with flat earthers , lizard paedophile rings etc. Mans desire to ignore science and look for moronic explanations to things he doesn’t understand is immeasurable.
I'm not arrogant enough to say that I know categorically that there is no god (which is the thing about Dawkins which I think rubs so many people up the wrong way). However, having read a myriad of books on the subject from both the scientific and philosophical point of view, I do think that the existence of a god is so extremely unlikely, that it's barely worth considering as a serious possibility in the modern day.
He He's still around doing pretty much the same thing and he's an arch conspiracy theorist to boot. He's a big trump fan too. He's still sending people threatening e mails etc and then blocking them when his 'source' is proven to be a 16 year redneck ku klux klan lover in tennesse etc. What a boy
I have no idea either way to be honest. Science can explain the big bang etc but something had to create a universe in the first place... it then goes on and on- "well what created that, and what created that?" I think all animals have an intellectual ceiling and believe that understanding what created the universe etc is beyond humans.
It's the only argument for god I can begin to credit but then you have to ask the question who or what created god? The exact start of everything remains unfathomable.
Thought he caused a **** load of trouble and tried to get people sacked from work because they offered a different opinion than his?
Not understanding the origins of the universe is a long way from what I would define as a "God" Man has created many petty and jealous Gods in our image. The notion of a Gos suggests something supernatural. I remember getting into a deep debate on the subject with someone at a christening (not a clergyman) and he said well you have no evidence on what happens when you die. I asked him "do you remember 10 years before you were born? Its probably like that" Faith is something I have never really understood, pride in believing something that doesn't make rational sense. It often comes down to either the "god of the gaps" or "Pascal's wager"
