........... no new players have been signed yet - there arnt even any real rumours of potential player signings. The new manager has yet to start - and there’s no news coming from the WELL But but but - I’m more optimistic this season then ever I was under the reign of Patrick.
Rumour is our first signing will be unveiled later this week. I finally go into hospital for my hip replacement surgery this Thursday. I'll watch this board very closely to try to find out if the rumour proves to be correct. The suggestion is that it's someone who has played in the Bundesliga.!! I'm really looking forward to being able to walk into a Oakwell without being in any pain from my hip once I have fully recovered. Come on yew Reds.
My Cousin from Poole ( Southampton fan) has a mate, who's son Brad Cherrett left non-league Christchurch to sign for Yeovil Town. Apparently, he's a real prospect for the future and must have known Ryan Hedges. From what I'm being told the Reds could be very interested in him, but ' ar kid has also confided that Wolves have made an enquiry about him, so it's not clear where he might end up. I've told him he will have better prospects if he comes to Barnsley ( viz : McGuire, Trippier, Stones, Butland etc). He's sent me an attachment published in the Bournemouth Echo from 2016. Admin just look at his record. ADMIN SHOULD BE AWARE ABOUT SUCH NUTTERS
I believe that one of the most important pre-requisites for success in the bottom two divisions is fitness. As we've witnessed previously during our time in League One, with a lot of teams, its usually more about brawn than brain. Having said that in my opinion, aside from adding any additional players to our squad, we have already got some lads who are very comfortable on the ball, so if Stendel and his team can get the players " super" fit, that could go a long way in them giving a good account of themselves for the forthcoming season. I once played for a team in Donny that was very successful in the local Amateur leagues. They brought an ex- pro in to coach us and to be considered for selection on the Sunday, you had to train in the evenings a minimum of two out of three two hour really hard sessions every week. We won the League and Cup in consecutive seasons and even though we came up against some good sides, it was amazing the number of games we won in the last fifteen minutes due to our superior stamina and overall fitness levels.
I personally think that aside from any loans, we will bring at least three or maybe four new players in, to replace any he might be willing to let go. An absolute must for me, is a quality keeper. Not bothered where he's from re- Germany, France, England, so long as it's someone who can prove to Davies that he's not the automatic No 1 and is capable of providing credible competition for the jersey, will do for me. Hopefully under this new regime, gone are the days where we are prepared to accept any single point weaknesses in our team. We need genuine competition for places.
I very much hope we will, but given the experience of Knasmullner I think we'd better wait to see what it brings about. There again, Gauthier has hinted at limited activity!
