It'd be an absolute no brainer to bring the other George Williams back

Really can't see why not. Just dropped down to league 2, won't be on big wages and he'll hardly hold any grudges against Chien Lee, Gauthier or the non existent manager.

As we all know he showed tremendous quality at this level with us and from all accounts he's carried that on at another club in this division.

We have 2 right backs who I am happy to go forward with but for me the left side needs strengthening badly.

You won't see a team starting with better full backs than McCarthy & Williams next season.

I'd have him back... get rid of pinilos and have him and fryers fight for that LB spot

Did he? I recall him being competent and putting in the utmost effort as and when called upon but he was steady at best. That’s not a criticism of him either, I just thought that he was fairly limited as Football League full backs go. His legend having been part of the promotion winning campaign has eclipsed his ability, in my opinion.

He put in a series of commendable performances as a right footed left back but in his actual position I would place him behind both McCarthy and Cavaré at right back.

I’d like to see us bring in a new left back, one that can kick on and impress in the Championship if and when we go up and I don’t think that Williams is that man.

    Unpopular opinion, I know.

Iv got to agree, good league 1 player but i have a feeling he would have struggled in the championship. McCarthy is better than him and he struggled at championship level

Agree with every word. Solid and dependable, but currently have better options in my opinion.

Letting Williams go was simply another stupid decision. Kpekawa was his replacement!!

Haven't seen enough of Pinillos but yes i think Fryers, Mccarthy and Cavare are all better options.

We already had White, Yiadom and Bree on the books. Williams would’ve been fourth choice and Hecky couldn’t guarantee him a place in the matchday squad, as he said at the time.

Not at all. The guy won every challenge, every battle. His effort, commitment and general attitude were very much reminiscent of a certain ginger haired fullback.

He is streets, streets and streets better than Pinillos and Fryers for that matter.

White was made of glass far too injury prone to keep and we paid the price. Williams would've been better than that. Williams would've been a better option than Kpekawa. Williams would've been better than Gethin Jones. Williams would've been better than last seasons calamities.

You do realise that in our first season back that White looked class in tandem with Hammill and that Yiadom was excellent in that position thereafter? I don’t know why you’re completely ignoring that.

Wingers must love coming up against Fryers. He backs off & backs off very rarely making interceptions, tackling or blocks. The fundamentals of defending are just not there and thats why club after club have not kept him on their books.

Why not? They could both be outstanding in league one. Last season has gone so it's time to give everyone a clean slate in my opinion.

Until October? You shouldn't sign a player to do a job until then.

Yiadom totally tailed off last season just shocking from him.

    Last season.

Williams left in the summer of 2016 when he was fourth choice at best.

Surely you’re not advocating hoarding players based on hindsight?

If George Williams is not as good as Fryers then he really should consider retirement.

Fryers is one of the first I'd be looking to move on.

I disagree. Mccarthy was ever present in for two full seasons in league one but couldn't hold down a place in the championship. Big difference in quality, and just as importantly, quality of opposition.

I'm not writing anyone off before a ball is kicked.

Fourth choice? he played in the playoff final, I think the JPT final and all the league games in the second half of that season. Going into that summer there was nothing to suggest he was down in the pecking order especially with the obvious injury proneness of Aidy White.

Williams would have been first name on the team sheet for me.
