Don’t get me wrong I have nothing against him and I think he deserves his place in the side, but he hasn’t been outstanding in any game just steady away. So why the big accolade by Wright’s and co?
Thought he had a great game - brought ball out of defence well and was a threat at set plays. Works well with Stones
I think him and Stones have been superb, they start a lot of attacks and rarely waste the ball. Long time since I've been able to say that about England centre halves. I'd have given him MOTM tonight. But I think the OP has a really fair point about him being consistent and steady most of the time. The pair of them could nail down these positions for years.
Said to my mate tonight. He is not an internationalist but a good strong no nonsense player you would have in your side. Where did he come from? Who does he play for? TBH I had never heard of him before.
He was in Barnsley's academy up to the age of 9 and was nicked by The Blunts when we were in admin. Plays for Leicester now.
just imagine if we still had the players once on our books. Trips, Stones ,Maguire, butland - who else would we slot in at LB?
Maguire and Stones may briefly have been in our academy at the same time, circa 2002. Stones joined at the age of eight (born 1994), Maguire left when he was nine (born 1993).
That’s doing him a massive disservice I think I’ve not rated him much before this tournament (admittedly not seen him that much) and probably been biased against him but he’s quality. He’s much more than a solid centre half - very good on the ball and brings it out superbly from the back.
