Firstly in Derby North and then in my own constituency. Whatever happens, i'm proud of the campaign we have run, based on a positive message for a better future, for a different way of doing things. What has struck me whilst doing this today and throughout the campaign is that al lot of Labour's problems with its base have come about due to a total lack of political campaigning skill, certainly with my local MP. So rather than engage with a hostile or undecided voter, they walk away and try and only focus on "confirmed" voters. I've engaged with several today, some not voting at all, some voting elsewhere. I've listened, discussed and campaigned for them to vote Labour - and it has worked on these individla cases - they went to vote and told us they had voted Labour. I've stood up for what I believe in, now the people have to decide.
I worked as a door to door salesman for 10 years, I'm sorry to tell you but they were just being nice to you and telling you they'd voted Labour. "Oh god it's that canvasser back again Brian what shall I say ?" "Just tell him you've voted for em, he'll go next door then"
That more than anything is what has impressed me during this election. I can't remember the last time I thought the MPs (on all sides) were not just saying what they thought we wanted to hear. It might not have worked this time, but it is a lot more honest and positive than anything within the last decade at least.
Think Labour have run a great campaign - if you'd ask me if I'd have taken this result this morning I would have said yes ..... Even if Tories get a majority the rest of his party may get behind JC
