Sunderland boss with some well considered comments on Black Cats v Barnsley. Also accepts that they "dug out" results in early part of season. https://www.sunderlandecho.com/spor...-ahead-of-crucial-play-off-campaign-1-9746457
Completely the wrong time to be levelling criticism at the team as whole and naming individuals in particular. Does nothing for morale and imo it does not auger well for the playoffs. I’m so happy we did not end up appointing this bloke rather than Daniel.
I did want us to get Ross at the time we were after him and I'm not convinced he's a bad manager either. It does seem he's not been particularly front foot in his style of play though and, having seen us play all season under Stendel without giving an inch, I'm very pleased with the option we ended up with.
Quite a number of Mackems, would like to see Ross get the bullet. If they don't win the playoffs, I wouldn't put it beyond the realms of fantasy to see that that's what happens to him. As we know, Football is an unscrupulous Industry especially for the Coach or Manager. As Reds, we are euphoric at the moment at Daniels achievements this season. Having said that, if he stays, God forbid, if we go on a losing run and are anchored in the bottom three next season because if we are, to avoid adverse criticism of the Board, he will be sacrificed. That's absolutely nailed on and is sadly accepted by the various Coach/Managers up and down the game. It's such a shame really. To usually be successful, you need to be given time and good quality players. That's why I think we need to see Daniel being allowed to bring some players in,that he knows that can hopefully enhance our prospectsa of avoiding being at the wrong end of the table. I don't know about anyone else, but our perennial struggles to stay up is very stressful. I hope the coming season is one where the Board try something that deviates slightly from our current strategy re- carry on bringing in young prospects who can be turned into saleable assets in the future, but also recruit players with a proven track record in the EFL and who have the experience and know how to play to and stand a good chance of surviving in the Championship. I know we will have to just wait and see, but I live in hope that I am able one day, to tell anyone who asks about my Club, as a minimum I'm able to say " we are always in the upper reaches of the Championship and one day, we might get into the Premiership."
I must admit I would have been happy with Ross had he come to us instead of Sunderland in the summer but with the benefit of hindsight I am much happier we had Stendel instead - play a much better to watch style of football. Lets just hope that we can keep him and he doesnt do a Hecky or Flicker and change what had been a successful formula for a much more defensive one
Sounds like latter day Heckingbottom. True. I do wonder what would have happened had Hecky kept faith with Mcgeehan and Mowatt and given Mallan a chance. Also what Flitcroft would have done if he hadn't wasted all summer trying to sign O'Grady without buying him someone to provide the service. We'll never know.
