Was Jose unlucky or was he totally to blame.Considering he took over a team lacking in confidence and to a degree a lack of quality we ended up 2 points short of our objective.Don't forget he had no window to change things and add some much needed quality.
The games against Derby,Forest,Millwall and 45 minutes of his debut game against Burton were completely dire and lacking all over the pitch. The games against Boro and Cardiff came possibly at the wrong time and although we created good chances in both games our opponents class shone through in the end.The Ipswich game could have gone either way.Now the games where we picked up results.Brentford,Sheff.Utd and Birmingham the players showed a great desire to win at all costs and after everyone of those games I thought we'd turned the corner. In the end the drawn games cost us.We easily outplayed Norwich,Bristol City and Bolton and 3 points from those games were scant reward for the way we played. The Hull match can be looked at both ways a decent point away to a rival or 2 points thrown down the drain.
Was the drawn games down to the manager or was it the teams lack of quality and mentality to see the games out which would have gave us another 6 points and safety.

He can’t be blamed for the 2 years of failures in the build-up to relegation, but he was absolutely the wrong man to dig us out of the mess.

We were relegated through lack of fitness and not being capable of playing ninety minutes.

Some games a think we were unlucky but his failure to keep the same 11 for more than 2 running games and buzz are changed midway through a game cost us dearly, did he also have the minerals to really fire the players up when you look how bad we were in some of our last games.

He took over a piss poor team devout on confidence but for me the right decision was taken to fire him and that would’ve been the same should we have stayed up, he didn’t give me confidence that he was the right man to take us out of league 1

When alls said and done he was unlucky, a few more points could easily have been achieved if not for some shocking individual errors. He was just a scapegoat at the end of the day, while those who recruited/ didnt recruit the correct personnel carry on as normal. He didn't have the right personality or convey the confidence needed with the situation we were in, so therefore it was the wrong appointment.

    Yes I agree.
There was a sequence of events caused by lack of money under PC that put us in a bad place - but in saying that Morais inherited a good squad of players that were quite capable of being nowhere near relegation - probably mid table.
Hence the reason we are favourites to be promoted.

But Morais tinkered about with the squad and in doing so they started having their own meetings etc.
It was clearly evident from one game to the next that Morais had no respect in the dressing room - but the players, when they wanted to, showed they were a match for most teams in that league.

I think the biggest failing was without doubt replacing 2/3rds of a squad in one summer whilst sticking to a policy of low wages & young players. It was always a tough ask regardless of who was in charge.

There were clearly other failings, we had a manager who spent all summer telling the media, fans & obviously the people above him that we needed more defensive & all round midfielders rather than the attacking ones we were bringing in & also that we were short up front yet for whatever reason neither area was addressed.

On Jose, I didn’t rate him whilst he was here but with a foreign manager who doesn’t know the league he would’ve been much better coming in during June / July & having time to learn about his squad & the opposition he was up against. I don’t really blame him as such, I think the blame deserves to go to whoever decided to appoint him.

That been said I do believe a side that was out of the drop zone in January which added McBurnie & Moore & had more players available post-January should’ve had enough to stay up.

There was no one person to blame, no one single simple cause.

Mistakes have been made over a period of time and he was the final piece in the dreadful jigsaw. I don't think there can be many who miss Jose Galloway.

He took over a team which Hecky had kept outside the relegation zone, added a striker who scored 9 in 17 and got us relegated. He was an abject failure.

If he'd have stuck to playing for a draw like his first few games, we would probably have stopped up. But he went all crazy 7 up front with full squad rotations.

At home we looked better than we did under Hecky. Away we were mostly abysmal, Birmingham and 1st half at Hull aside.

Little from column A and little from column B

Yes that’s an important point that some on here choose to forget.
Morais had SIX MORE PLAYERS than Hecky.
Which included a proper strike force of Moore and McBurnie that Hecky didn’t have.

We will never know - but IMO we would NOT have been relegated if Hecky had stayed.

Why is Heckingbottom not mentioned much?

I didnt agree with the appointment but he got some justified stick playing players out of position, poor tactics, poor team selection (you can only get away with those things if you are from barnsley). We created far more chances under jose than we did under hecky and it wasn't his fault Adam Davies couldn't catch a cold or keiffer moore couldn't score from 2 yards out or finish when one on one. And it was fine margins Davies makes that save v Bristol and that's another 2 points on the board.

If you are in a plane & the pilot has bailed out, you need someone who can fly the plane.

    We didn't sign a pilot.

He was the worst managerial appointment in my 40 years of watching us. On his hands and knees in the dressing room meowing? Not even eccentricly entertaining. Just terrible.

He was a terrible appointment. It's all conjecture on my part but I honestly believe that any half decent manager would have kept us up.

I don't think any manager would have stood a chance the people to blame are many from Hecky to the then board and the management and the players cant be blameless I think it was a shamless unorganised rable at times with no passion no effort and certainly no confidence.
We had a team that had skill in abundance but no application I could pick on certain players but too many didn't apply themselves

I'm certain that most fans wouldn't mind loosing as long as effort is applied and unfortunately on many occasions t didn't appear we were better than most teams as I didn't see more than a handfull of teams that were better than us
