Cryne said that the policy of signing multiple players from the lower leagues offered no financial risk. We get them in for minimal funds, see how they develop, and then churn them back down the leagues for the same amount we paid for them.
It was obvious from his record he wasn't good enough. If he was a quid it was a quid too much. Especially when we "lost" £1m.
Give over. The fact you had him on your 'bizarre signings' list made me ignore that thread. No harm done on this one. Nor on the other dozen or so that probably won't make it.
So what made someone look at a striker with 4 goals in 36 Conference games and think "hmmmm........he's worth a punt"? Absolute waste of time and money. Same as Tuton, Lee, Mike Phenix, Odejayi and no doubt Stefan Payne.
You're so miserable it's unreal. It's not a waste of time or money if the costs are minimal at worst. Every football club has a list like the one you've quoted above. Lee is the only real signing that didn't work out as we probably hoped.
I've re-thought my tactics after reading the "Fun Times with a Footy" thread. I now think we need 16 keepers, 11 in the side and 5 on the bench. We could then play "goalie when needed". When defending, we could have about 6 of the keepers on the goal line, so surely one or the other of them would save any goal-bound attempt? As long as they shouted "goalie when needed" in mid-save it should be fine. We may have difficulty scoring but we should have a very good goals against column.
Ridiculous to be honest!! We signed him after winning promotion to the Champship... and we sent him to Lg Two Grimsby on loan (was it a full season loan ?). What was he supposed to learn from that loan, compared to what we wanted from him at this level ? I dont blame him and good luck to him now wherever he plays, but this was such a poor idea by us.
Great idea according to Loko. No risk. Apart from any transfer fee, wages and paying him off. Great business all round.
We actually signed him before we went to Wembley & got promoted. I think we might have agreed the deal perhaps thinking we might be still in L1 but then the play offs happened for us. Sent from my iPhone using Barnsley FC BBS Fan Forum mobile app
Good luck to him. No harm done in trying out He was signed before we got promoted so may have played a bit more if we'd been in League One. This one didn't work, fine; but if we didn't try signing non-League players we wouldn't have signed Angus or Roberts. Those signings theoretically shouldn't have worked out, but very much did
That kid stayed in acting. He's brilliant as Colin in the Sky 1 comedy Trollied. Great double act with his on screen girlfriend Lisa.
