For me ,the key to a successful side is keeping more or less the same side week in week out with a few minor tweeks now and again. Look at the side of 1996 ,the Glavin/ Mcarthy side of the early 8os etc. Even when we won promotion in 2016.The same players played nearly every week. Morais and Heckingbottom before him to some degree ,was/is forever swapping and changing the side sometimes it feels needlessly. How can the confidence and unstanding of the players for each others strengths and weaknesses develop if they dont know if they are going to be dropped every week or who they are going to play alongside. Surely, surely a strong backfour who know each others game is the starting point for any team. Yet one game its Fryers, next game Pinillos, Cavare or it could be Yiadom ...and the lad from Southampton McCarthy? seems to have dropped off the radar. A settled side with players not being played out of position i feel would help the situation if its not already too late.
My analysis of the Milwall match...we have some talented players but our organisation was crap. Millwall looked an organised side who came with a game plan and it worked. What is there to this analyst lark..
Agree with Arpete on this one - you can only get an understanding if you are playing with the same players week in week out - Millwall had that and we didn't - simple as that
To me the answer is simply that neither manager this season have found a winning formula , we strive for continuity but unfortunately the only continuity we have had is that we lose on a regular basis , if a winning formula was stumbled upon I feel sure we would see a more settled side
We are t good enough. We have 2 players in Yiadom and McBurnie who are better than bottom 6 Championship. The centre halves are bottom 3/4. The rest of the team L1 it doesn’t matter what formation we play it can’t hide a lack of ability.
I remember when Heckingbottom stuck with the same or a very similar team for 6 or 7 games & Twitter & this place was full of people slating Moncur & Potts saying they needed to be dropped. You can’t win
But that's when the formation is most important. When you're *****, you need to glean every last drop of ability out of said turds. Draws and losses can turn to wins with clever set pieces and good organisation. At the minute we have poor players who have no idea what they're doing. It's a bad combination.
I take the point. Hecky got us organised but we were still losing with the occasional draw. I wouldn’t have picked our Head Coach for a relegation dogfight myself but I’m not a billionaire so what do I know.
