according to paul merson on talksport earlier. Cant remember the exact phrasing but basically said that villa have to realise that it will be tough against teams not used to playing in big stadiums with large crowds. Games like this are a cup final for the likes of barnsley. Also earlier said that villa's recent signings were good players but only used to playing for small clubs in front of crowds of 7000+ and when they realise that they are at a big club in front of a big crowd they "just melt"
I'd rather be Mike tyson sparring partner than listen to paul merson or talk ***** for that matter. His record as a manager speaks for itself.
Is he still shoving colombian marching powder up his bugle....the knob.... Sky have already said he wont be at the game saturday due to detention....think thats what they meant when they said hed got lines to do
Is that along with our Cup finals at Wolves, Forest, Birmingham. We actually won our real cup finals - both of them - last year Patronising twunt
Lazy thing to say It gets Bruce & Villa off the hook for poor performances and doesn't give Hecky, the coaches and the players due credit for performances and results this season. Let's be right, over a season Villa and most other teams in this league 'should' out perform us because of the resources at their disposal - they can out buy us, and raid us for players with the offer of fees and wages. But it looks like Hecky and the team are starting to develop (on field) a team ethic and the tactical nous to make up for the lack of ££££. As he has alluded to - we need this ethos off the field - not in wages that match what's on offer elsewhere because we quite simply can't - not to say rewards should be made to the current squad, but in better constructed contracts that try and allow us to maximise a players worth, or keep them to see a particular season out. We've got 40 odd cup finals if you agree with Merson, or we are earning the right to be competitive at this level through hard work and clever recruiting, and deserve to be here (and higher) on merit. Long may it continue.
A little off topic, but I listen to a podcast called the football ramble. They received an email a few weeks ago from a chap who said he used to be on the books at Walsall. He was a pro for 2 years without making a single appearance; he went to training one day, and even spoke to Paul Merson who was in charge at the time, and then went to the pub to meet some mates. His mates began to take the piss as one of them had bought the local paper to read that this lad had been released from Walsall without as much as a letter or discussion with anyone at the club. As I say, he'd even been in training with Paul Merson earlier in the day. It was a funny story, told much better than I could ever do it justice on here. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
Only 2 actual properly real Cup Finals of course 1910 against Newcastle, and 1912 against the Baggies.
That's the mentality these so-called "big clubs" have, simply because their name is mentioned a few times in the history books and that somehow gives them a divine right to succeed against those who may not have had the same perceived success. It gives them a financial advantage through larger numbers of supporters built over generations, that's about it.
Alan McInally was equally as ignorant on Sky Sports News this morning, labelling the result a 'disgrace' - it was all about how poor Villa were, and how they were struggling etc etc... not once did they mention us, or the fantastic work being carried out at the club. Talked about the clubs doing well at the minute, Newcastle, Brighton, Hudds, Sheff Wed, Reading...didn't mention us, even though we are 6th in the form table. Screw em.
Merson has demonstrated often enough his judgement is poor. None of the Sky pundits, other than Prutton and Beagre, have the faintest idea about anything below Prem level.
Technically Merton was correct but it was one of our 46 cup finals across the season where we've the mentality to try and win every game and not just raise it for certain teams. That's why we are so high up.
