Yep, not sure how reliable the Coventry telegraph are. Mixed feelings on this one - clearly has a lot of potential from his record at Pompey but did little at Coventry.
Both Stendal and Winkler said last season that Chaplin was a player they liked and would like to work with.If I'm honest I don't know that much about him but if our coach as seen enough to persuade the board to sign him I will trust his judgement.
There's a big gap on the back page of the chronicle. We all know we like to do stuff on a Thursday. Timing would seem about right for the new CEO to create the good impression. If the signiing goes through then he could play in the friendly at Penistone tomorrow.
Wonder if he uses cue chalk at the end of those shoes to hit the ball If defender gets the better he can always use the end of the stick to wrap round the neck to drag him back.
Just thinking has anyone checked Chaplin's Twitter account to see if he's following anyone connected with Barnsley
They seem fairly ambivalent about it all which is a bit concerning given that they're in the league below. May be a good sub but can't see him being a regular starter.
He was mainly a sub at both clubs. Given his actual starts he doesn't have a bad scoring record & a striker with pace may add to the mix with Moore & Woodrow.
If we sign Chaplin then we would have four wide players with realistic aspirations of playing alongside Woodrow or Moore. I think we'll go one up top during the coming season. It could be: Thiam, Woodrow, Thomas or Wilks, Moore, Chaplin or substitute Miller for Moore or Woodrow. If Stendel plays a three we've got plenty of options in attacking areas. The area that concerns me is centre midfield neither Mcgeehan or Mowatt are naturals in the other side of the game. They both get stuck in but are clumsy and I'm concerned Mcgeehan in particular is a red card waiting to happen so I'd like another player like Dougall to be brought in.
You’ve forgot about Jacob Brown. A few Coventry fans I’ve spoken to have said that Chaplin definitely isn’t a winger. Sounds as though he’s a talented lad, but one that needs to be accommodated properly in a starting eleven, which he wasn’t at Coventry. Do agree we need another midfielder though. I like the look of Styles but not sure how he’ll fare in the Championship just yet.
Looking at that Coventry thread I wonder if Bright Enobakhare is on the spreadsheet. Seems like a natural fit if Wolves are willing to let him go and wages don't prove a stumbling block.
I forgot about Styles too. Him and Brown will certainly have players looking over their shoulders. It's good competition for places. Towards the back end of last season Brown was one of the first names on the team sheet. With the recruitment this summer he won't be but it's good because he'll have to beat off some good competition.
Agree with your points regarding McGeehan and there's definitely room for another defensive minded midfielder in the squad. I would personally be more comfortable if Dougall was starting the season. From watching the friendlies it seems that even though Bahre isn't classed as a natural striker, he has been playing quite high up the pitch in what resembles a 442. Or 4411 I guess. I'd therefore see Chaplin as adding to current three we aim to play up top (Bahre, Moore, Woodrow) with competition on the wings between, Brown, Thomas, Thiam, Green and Wilks.
Interesting isn't it! I know a fair few Cov season ticket holders from uni, they think he's beyond useless and can't believe we're actually wanting to pay money for him. I trust Stendel's opinion more, but judge the messages they sent me about him a couple of weeks ago as you will. Another friend:
It's a great headache to have. I'm really looking forward to this season because the squad seems very balanced.
