The formation Leeds played made it impossible to play out from the back first half, they are one of the first teams not to sit back and let us bring the ball forward at our own pace, the panic in our players faces when every pass was a dead end ,plus the pressure of one mis-placed pass being greeted with howls of derision, for me Hecky should have changed our shape after ten minutes ,not half time when 2 nil down,it was sad to watch and now it's sad to listen to people saying ,players did not try, they were on a hiding to nothing first half ,Leeds taking ball out to edge of box dragging our players out then switching back inside to biggest gap infront of our back 4 I've seen teams make in a long time,Hecky better get his thinking cap on because if other managers have watched that and have players skilful enough to play that way ,we are in for a stressful rest of season
I’m not convinced that that’s the case when PH has a fully fit squad at his disposal. We could quite easily mirror Leeds’ set up yesterday in a 4-2-3-1 system, albeit without the brilliance of a Saiz behind the striker. I’d like to see Barnes central behind the striker, a position that he has occupied many times before with Isgrove wide right and Hammill/Hedges wide left. I think that would give us really good options to support the lone frontman particularly with Barnes’ ability to run at the defence and get beyond the striker with his pace.
352 is a formation that’s worth a shot, it leaves no room for our wingers however which Has been a strength this year, we’d have lost yesterday playing with 14 players however so whatever formation we play the players selected have got to do better in it McDonald Lyndsey Jackson McCarthy Fryers Williams Gardener Barnes Bradshaw Ugbo
We can talk about formations all day but at the end of the day we’ve only got 1 good striker & 1 good central midfielder right now & it limits us
