I get his point to some extent. The reason many of us stopped clapping the NHS was not because we did not support them. Rather the government were asking us to clap them going to work with no PPE & with inadequate pay. I think every player / club has a right to make a stance re Black Lives Matter or not wearing a poppy (e.g. James McClean), or whatever. These statements are also going to be re-interpretated, for right or wrong by the right wing press, fans, social media in general & Tom, Dick & Harry. Les is certainly a cool guy, who has undoubtedly done a lot to fight racism & prejudice. Sometimes you do need big statements & campaigns as well, to point out some things are not acceptable.
Engie staff (the contractors for the NHS) got a lump sum of £2000 and monthly payment of £250 danger money for working in hospitals. Paid by the trusts they operate with. (The government in effect). NHS staff have had **** all.
Yes, I'd heard that. Pretty shocking. Quite a few people were critical of me boycotting the clapping after the first week, as it seemed hypocritical that Boris & his cronies had initiated this with his Jingoistic Bullsh1t approach to cover up the fact that we were sending nurses, doctors & ancilliary staff out to treat COVID patients without the proper PPE. I of course fully admire their bravery & think that to pay them properly & to protect them by giving them the PPE they needed would have been a more appropriate way of showing this. If other people clapping helped the NHS staff do their jobs, that's cool as well. I guess this is the sort of point Les is trying to make.
It isn't going to change things. Gammon flakes are too dyed in the wool to not be racist lovely person*s.
Isnt the use of the word Gammon in itself derogatory towards white people ? Or even racist, not having ago, seen the word Gammon flung about loads lately, " you voted brexit... GAMMON" you're a proud brit " GAMMON" Youre a vet who flys the union flag " GAMMON" or is it a word given to anybody, regardless of colour who as the mindset of the examples I gave, or is it aimed at white people, like i say not having a go, sticks and stones as far as I'm concerned but wondered who it is aimed at, if only racists then not a problem
I found this fairly lengthy definition: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Gammon It's not a word I use myself TBH, but it did make me chuckle in places.
Ha ha , so it is a derogatory term used against white Males who read the mail and voted for Brexit, there's a hell of a lot of Gammons including myself in our country, I find it hilarious tbh. and fair play to whoever connected the two.
You 'read' the Daily Mail. FFS!! I thought it was only read by people who thought the wrong side won the 2 WW. I admit, that's now quite a lot of people in this Country. Thank Christ for 22 miles of water and some very brave airman eh!
My definition of it is any person who loves being hateful to anyone who's different, so much so that it raises their blood pressure to dangerous levels. The kind of people who call others snowflakes, even though they themselves have a catastrophic meltdown over such innocuous things as: - Homosexuality - Female Dr Who - A Scandinavian schoolgirl - Vegetarian sausage rolls - Black James Bond - Foreigners unable to speak English, even though they themselves couldn't pass a Key Stage 1 English test - Gary Lineker
I always find it amusing when people use insulting and derogatory terms to attack people who use insulting & derogatory terms.
Can I not like vegetarian sausage rolls a little bit. saying that our lass did me quorn sausages once. Quite liked em and didn’t realise they weren’t meat till she told me.
