Listed as one of the top four League One players to watch this season by the Guardian. We only got a few sentences in the ‘candidates for promotion’ section, but I’d rather keep it that way. Being the underdogs hasn’t always been a bad thing for us. “Liam Lindsay (Barnsley): Oakwell has been a fertile breeding ground for young defenders – John Stones, Alfie Mawson, Mason Holgate, James Bree – the list goes on. And in Lindsay, a 22-year-old Scot, they have another standout defensive performer. He signed from Partick Thistle last summer and will be key if Barnsley are to bounce back.”
He gets more stick than he deserves I think. Not saying he gets slated but I’ve seen a fair few people slag him. I get that last season wasn’t good for us and it’s unlikely that any of our players will come out of it with any credibility but I think moving from Scotland, being only 22 with not a great deal of experience and having to partner a few different centre backs throughout the season, I thought he had a good season. Got player’s player of the year too didn’t he? In Lindsay, Jackson and Pinnock we have 3 centre backs who are all good enough to start I think. But for me, it’s Lindsay and 1 of Jackson or Pinnock.
Think he and Pinnock will eventually be sold for a lot of money. Remember Mawson getting a lot of stick in his first year. And their first year in the championship (stepping up from Scotland and Non League) they looked better than Mawson did in League 1. But then I remember Hourihane, Roberts, Winnall and pretty much any decent player getting stick when they were stepping up and settling in.
Reading the comments, most opposition supporters see us as favourites to win the league. I think we'll do well, hope they're right
For me if you are playing a back 4 you need a combative ball winner (John Terry type player), and a ball player (Ferdinand / Stones, etc). Lindsay fits the first category & Pinnock the second. Jackson is somewhere in between. Not a bad mix really.
If he hadn't of had to deal with covering for Jackson inability for half the season he'd have stood out even more. Very good on the ball, deceptively quick and doesn't lose much in the air. Surprised we've managed to keep him
Yes, I get you, but that's why you need a Pinnock next to him. He needs to do simple lay offs, unless we are under pressure, when, for me hoof ball is OK. At corners / free kicks you need your defender that attacks the ball. He's that guy. not to say he can't work on his passing though.
Misread it I think. Do you mean Lindsay is the combative defender? I don't think he does that either whereas Pinnock is decent with regards to the physical side of the game.
I also believe he's our best defender, although I wouldn't mind seeing a few more goals from him. There are aspects of his game he can improve on, but that's to be expected at his age. He's nowhere near his peak.
It’s interesting that his fellow pros voted him Player of thevYrar. I think they are better judges than supporters.
McBurnie was only about for the disaster at the end of the season. Surely he would have won it, if not. As it was Toby Tyke was in the frame.
