But Burton and Bristol aren't in the top 6 with their Prem loanees? What makes you think we would be?
It works, or it dunt. Personally I trust in our current methodology.

So you'd rather have a team full of players who would only be with us for 6 months?

Yep, and Vaz Te forcing a move after that 3 months, along with Premier League loan player Danny Drinkwater being recalled contributed to us going from the verge of the playoff spots to 4th bottom and only just staying in this division...

Ahhh so you would prefer to see people here for 3 to 6 months rather than 2 to 3 years ?

Out of interest how far do you think the club would progress with that kind of policy ?

Not sure but a high sale rate's done Southampton no trouble over the last 4 years. Started it in league 1 and qualified in Europe last season.

Small point but we got £8 million for Stones and half a million for Vas Te. who were both ours
if we are going to lose good player who are ours at least we get decent money for them

We get nothing for Fletcher for example when we return a much better player than the one we received

Not saying loans dont have a place but given a choice I'd have our own players every time just use loans to fill gaps where needed

We ended up relegated 2 seasons after Vaz Te was sold, 1 season after Stones was sold (both our players), and the loanee Butland was part of the team that was relegated. Short term recruitment doesn't guarantee anything for club or player.

The problem with young loanees is that it's a complete gamble. They can show plenty of ability in academies but you have no idea what they're like as people, no idea how they'll adapt to moving home for probably the first time away from family etc. You can't speak to different managers & coaches & fellow pro's about them as they've only just made the first team squad at one club so barely anyone knows them.

Anyone can come on here & proclaim to be an expert saying we should've signed so & so if they do well but you don't know if -

    1 - They would've come here

2 - They were available for loan

3 - We could afford them

4 - We haven't already tried to sign them

Your deluded if you think every club can have the same success. For every success story there are multitudes of failures, a lot of the failures coming from clubs that were once successful.

Exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if every club in this league didn't have a premier league loanee or three.

It's not an guarantee of success.

This is a very misleading thread. I actually thought you were indeed looking forward to watching spurs, when infact the thread is about something totally different.

You do realise that the players sold wern't U21 premier league loan players just passing through for a 3 to 6 month period dont you ?

They were player's that came from either their academy or the lower league's. Players that were then put into the first team and allowed to develop and grow into better players. When they were sold they were then worth more than when they first broke into the first team.

Its actually a pretty good policy, one that i think barnsley should look to ado.......

    Hang on a minute !!

You do realise the vast majority of players sold for huge profits at Southampton came through their successful academy system and not via short term loans.

    Bale
    Shaw
    Walcott
    Oxlade-Chamberlain
    Chambers
    Lallana

Going even further back to a certain Alan Shearer.

The way Hemsie keeps going on about we need this player dropped/these players signed etc etc we'd be in a relegation battle but we're 8th and 14 points above relegation zone.
