The best Barnsley team I've ever seen also lost to Blackpool in the FA Cup 3rd Round, during the 1981/82 season. It was a far more talented team than the current one and put in a far worse display than tonight's. We were nowhere near the standard we've set ourselves this season. However, after the season (and year) Hecky & the lads have given us and taking into account what has gone off this past week, I'm backing them all 100%. Which is why, although bitterly disappointed at the performance and result, I applauded them at the end. Onto Saturday and Leeds United.
I was telling my daughter about that game tonight. I remember running all the way home feeling like crying. Tonight was just one of those games. No big deal in the scheme of things. I was a bit gutted, cos in spite of watching for almost 40 years, I've still never seen penalties live, other than at Cardiff for the play off final. I've always missed them.
