I think we have had one or two that have forgotten their whistle or cards over the years
No complaints at him being suspended - do you think he would have suggested Rock Paper scissors at a Mens game?
Just wish they would suspend them for other areas of incompetence with the same enthusiasm

I don't think he should have been suspended. I honestly believe if he'd suggested rock paper scissors at a men's game it would have been received with good humour as a moment of levity and he would have received a slap on the wrist at worst.

The issue is that it is perceived (whether rightly or wrongly) as an example of a man not giving a toss (pun intended) about the women's game. That is definitely an issue in many aspects of women's football but I'm not sure it is in this example, it seems a simple mistake.

Rather than just putting a random link, can you at least give an inkling what the content is? Gives people more guidance as to whether they want to click on it or not

    Thanks

Agree What’s bonkers is a 21 day ban. 7 day ban would have had the same effect. Don’t think he will forget again. It’s a mistake not a game changing wrong decision.

Forgetting a coin is not the sins of all sins in the refereeing world. Why the hell didn’t he just put a small item, perhaps a blade of grass,in his hand and let them guess which hand it was in. Also, When I ref’d I instructed the senior linesman to take everything out with him that he would normally if he was the ref.

It’s a fair point, even copying and pasting the headline would help. You post a lot of links, generally quite interesting ones but it’d be nice to have an inkling what it is going to be about first. It also makes it easier to find the correct post again.

Ive just mentioned this thread to a ref . He said 'we've all been there', and said he'd have done the grass in hand thing .

I have to agree. Ok he didn't follow protocol but it hardly had any bearing on the game so a slap on the wrist and a quiet warning would have been sufficient. I'm pretty sure there are more important issues with referees that need dealing with and something like this is pretty irrelevant by comparison. Clearly priorities are not where most fans would want them to be.

A suspension seems a bit much in my opinion.

A couple of times I’ve had to choose which hand the piece of grass is in so I’d guess that is the go to protocol if the coin is forgotten.

This seems to be a common theme though with lots of ref's. They are very quick to punish the procedural elements of the game - rolling ball at free kick, removing shirt when celebrating etc, but then backing out of the big issues such as diving, back chatting the ref where it might cause controversy.

Then he'd be suspended as well. As the rule states a coin MUST be used. Barmy I know.
