Said the same, haven't they changed since their time in the third tier. Majority of the premier leagues support is like that, it was refreshing to see the Leeds fans going mental in the week.
They are getting used to success that's the problem. UEFA are looking into their finances at the moment. How can any team apart from probably the top six in the Premier compete with them.? Leicesters title win was a breath of fresh air, but is unlikely to happen again.
They are becoming exactly what they taunt Man United about. A team that attracts glory hunters from far and wide.
When you succeed all the time the celebrations are bound to be muted. Messi barely celebrates his goals because it's just another goal to him. We had the Man United treble winners of 1999 and the Arsenal invincibles. This City side being the first ever to win the domestic treble is the same level as the other two.
They had good fans back in the third tier remember them coming to oakwell when Bassett was manager we beat the 2-1 higgy and John Curtis scored I think brought a good following and got behind the team. Too many plastics now.
It's the sustained amount of money pumped in over the last decade, they blow every other team out of the water with it. Chelsea were a close second until the last couple of years, and I didn't like that either. It's the source of the investment too. A huge proportion of, for example, Man Utd & Liverpool's funding comes from player sales, legitimate sponsors and commerical activity. City have literally just been gifted theirs by a foreign state. Even their Etihad sponsorship deal is fishy. I don't just have an illogical disliking of one team, I hate it whenever money hugely distorts competition. It sickens me how well Wolves have done this season given their ridiculous expenditure last season, and they're a team I didn't used to mind.
Bit o/t if uefa are investigating city for financial irregularities then why aren’t the fa and premier league doing the same
Let's be right though. Man City only spent 1 season in the 3rd tier in their whole history, and during that season they averaged almost 30,000. They're a big club. Always have been, hence why they attracted such massive investment. http://european-football-statistics.co.uk/attnclub/league/manc.htm Of course they've attracted a lot of new fans from afar (don't all successful clubs? ) but the majority of older City fans are still pinching themselves in disbelief.
City are the team of the the majority of born and bred Mancunians and have always had a loyal following. A lad I used to know , Tony Coleman left Doncaster Rovers and signed for them. I seem to remember he played for them in the Cup Final against Leicester City in the 68/69 season I think. Leicester knocked Barnsley out in the 3 rd round that season after a replay. Tony was born in Liverpool and was a regular at Anfield. I spoke to him on the phone after he had left Donny and he told me he hadn't truly realised what a big Club City really were. Ended up moving to Aussie but came back to the UK. Read somewhere he later fell on hard times and ended up having to sell the medals he had won during his career.
There's only one answer to the problem. Bring back the £20 a week maximum wage - Jimmy Hill & Johnny Haynes has a lot to account for .... £100 a week - it'll be the death for a working man's sport
Where did all Chelsea's money come from? Man u have spend billions, ferguson bought the title for years. Blackburn even bought the title one year. Dont get all this city bashing. The prem have finally broke the man u dominance and people just want to moan about it....
