Plenty of chewing the fat about how long the penalty decision took and who was offside and whether he was interfering with play. No mention of whether it was actually a foul or not. Having seen it again just now, I don't think Cavare actually fouled him.
I agree. Its not that there isn't any contact between the two players, but there's no foul that I can see. Just reinforces the modern trend in professional football - throw yourself to the floor and there's a good chance of getting a free kick /penalty. Very very soft penalty.
Agreed no where near enough contact to justify the Tom Daly impression. But none of the panel mentioned it at all
Yeah I was smack behind it and Vydra had a poor first touch which enabled Cavare to get to him. After that he went down very easily.
My thoughts exactly. There was no foul by any stretch of the imagination and no-one has mentioned it apart from in this thread.
Incidents like this are the perfect opportunity for the authorities to crack down on the cheating / simulation that is contributing to their officials looking like imbeciles but nothing will be done. The FA, the mainstream media, officials and ex pros all seem to be happy to accept it; some even try to excuse it.
Look who the ex-pros are though....Alan ‘dive more than Tom Daley’ Shearer. Vydra is a decent footballer but I’ve noticed he throws himself to the floor regularly. Didn’t he get at least 1 free kick in the last match of last season by going to ground....
If it had been in the other box it wouldn’t have been given - He backed into cavare and chucked himself to the floor it’s a shame this is how the modern game is. Funny thing with VAR Is i can see it benefitting the lesser teams in such games where the referee can’t wait to give a penalty. At 10 years old at old Trafford away Gary Neville’s challenge on Hendrie was the most blatant penalty ever sent and not given I learn at a young age what football was about and nothing has changed since.
... and summed up by Gabby Yorath saying something on the lines of “at least justice was done for Burnley getting a penalty at the end.” Just nit a true reflection if what happened. The amount of bleating about Burnley’s lack of penalties... well they got two in one day. One definitely wasnt even a pen, regardless of the iffside. We’ve had one pen in about two years in the league, yet tons of dodgy ones awarded against.
