As many of you will know, the shirts worn at the Stoke game are being auctioned off in aid of the British Legion. You can see the current state of the bidding here https://matchwornshirt.com/club/59 Take a look at Cam McGeehan's shirt. It's miles above the others at £640. If you look closely, you'll see it went from £212 to £640, with 3 successive bids from the same bidder, within about 60 seconds. Why would you outbid yourself? Has anyone used this before, it looks very strange to me?
Bizarre, you're correct! Good job I took a screen shot. It's almost as if people are being encouraged to place higher bids than necessary.....
Could it be like eBay? You put in a maximum bid but increases in your bid only show if someone else makes a bid. (If that makes sense?!).
I've never used eBay, so no, it doesn't make sense There's a similar story on the Patrick Schmidt shirt. It went from £143 to £200, with 2 bids from the same bidder within 30 seconds. It's very strange maybe Newsbot is bidding?
Fair play to anyone willing to pay 3 figures for a permanent reminder of that game, that's true charity. I'm trying to erase it from my memory
Mike Bahre wasn't even on the bench but his shirt is on. Elliot Simoes isn't even on the list but was on the bench
Think of it like this: Current bid- £15 I really want the item, so I tell eBay I’ll bid up to £20 ebay lists the current auction price as £16, as I’ve outbid the £15 bid. If someone then bids £17, they will then automatically up my bid to £18, and so on up to my maximum bid of £20. As a result, if I put a max bid of £20 on, and then decide actually I’d pay up to £25, and then again decided I’d bid up to £30, that would register as three separate bids, despite the fact the auction price has never actually gone up from my initial £20 bid. not saying for sure that’s what has gone on here though!
Thank you, that at least explains how it could happen. However, it doesn't explain why the Cam McGeehan shirt went from £212 to £640 in 60 seconds, then a while later it went back to £212 again. Looks very fishy to me.
Imagine bidding £186 for a Malik Wilks shirt from a 4-2 defeat at home to Stoke. Some people must have more money than sense, or a very generous heart.
I can see how it might appear fishy if you’ve not used auction sites before but this sort of thing happens. Auto bids up to a maximum can happen very quickly. Also on some sites you can withdraw a bid within a certain time. Folk can use that to see what maximum bids are set for a particular item. If you do it a lot you get barred. There must have been a minimum for the shirts as well.
I've actually had an email from them confirming that the McGeehan bids were removed as they were "irregular". They explained that it often happens that people place 2 or more bids one after the other, for example if they know they can't get online when the auction ends, in this case at 15:00 today. Still can't believe the prices though!!!!!
Bidding finished now. Very interesting to see what was bid for each shirt. Luke Thomas £351 Alex Mowatt £267 Cauley Woodrow £260 Cameron McGeehan £234 Bambo Diaby £232 Dmitri Cavare £231 Patrick Schmidt £225 Jacob Brown £216 Aapo Halme £209 Kenny Dougall £209 Brad Collins £187 Conor Chaplin £187 Malik Wilks £186 Tony Sibbick £165 Sammy Radlinger £165 Clark Odour £164 Mike-Steven Bahre £146 Mads Anderson £143
Put four zeros on the end of Mowatt and Woodrow's and that would be more realistic. But the rest seem about bang on.... They are the actual player values right???
