Steady player. Glad he came on and calmed things down second half while QPR got tired. Then we picked them off. Linked up well with Brittain and freed Mowatt and Styles up.
I’ve only been going since 2002/03 roughly so he is definitely up there for me. He is just so classy. I feel like he’ll be here for 3 months, then a top championship side will come in for him and then we’ll have eased Kane into the side by then.
Apparently he played 35 times for the Leicester team in 13/14, one of the best second flight team opposition performances I’ve ever seen at Oakwell.... one touch passes at knee height and completely outplayed us in a three nil win. I genuinely thought they looked top quality throughout that match. Matty J played the full match.
There’s some big money in this division nowadays though. I would, as I’m very sure we all would, love him to stay here longer.
As I mentioned in a another post he's probably financially secure already, so 10k a week or 20k a week probably isn't going to make a massive difference to him (10k a week is still a massive wodge of cash, let's be right), so if he's happy at BFC and is getting game time in (hopefully) a winning side, then I think we've got a good chance of making it permanent. Finances may not be the sole motivating factor for him at this point in his career.
Be nice, but football isnt like this as we all know. Dunt matter how rich u are, getting 2 or 3 times more money for doing the same job is always going to appeal. Id love him to stay on till the end of the season but can see a Bristol or Cardiff snapping him up when word gets around how mint he is.
He’s not even lived half his life yet. Being on £500k a year for the next three years or being on £1 million a year for the next three years will make a huge difference to him and his family. He’s basically not played football for three years so hasn’t been able to take advantage of landing a top, top dollar contract. Money will be a huge motivational factor, as it is with all players, and I don’t see him being any different on that just because he’s seen as a ‘nice guy’ and positive in the dressing room. He might take slightly less to be at the right club, but then he might trade that in for an extra year. Who knows. We don’t know what his ambitions are after football but if it’s to coach then he’s not going in to highly paid work so the next four years will be huge for him and his earnings potential.
I bet his Leicester contract is a top dollar one to be fair! But yeah, if a team comes in with big money he's probably going to go there. The only thing that might improve our chances of keeping him could be his age and injury record, plus us being the ones to get him back in the team. You never know! It'd be amazing if we could keep him around, but at least we can all enjoy watching him for a few months at least!
