Must have been looking at each other scratching their heads last night and wondering what they have to do to get on the pitch. Especially Hedges, who was the only one to come out of saturday with any credibility. McCarthy should never have been dropped either.
Why? Heckys said in numerous interviews that they're young and run out of steam easily, they then need resting for 3/4 games. McGeehan's only started 6 games in 11 months after coming back from a serious injury, if we don't rest him he'll soon be injured again.
Young lads running out of steam and needing 3/4 games rest? Do me a favour. All 3 of them should have been on the pitch in some capacity last night, surley im not on my own in thinking this. How come Potts can play every game like?
Also Yiadom has been out a while with an injury, how come he doesn't need a couple of games rest? He's started every game since he's been fit.
I really didnt understand the Potts at right wing idea. Hedges was the obvious choice, but if Hecky didnt think he was up to it for a full game the next most obvious choice was to play McCarthy at Right Back and Yids ahead of him. Struggling to think of a squarer peg for the Right Wing hole than Potts to be honest, even Moncur would have made more sense
Play our best players every week forget swapping and changing sides its shows it doesnt work, swapping 3 every game is madness. Its not like our players are all in there 30's and have had a 10+ years in professional football they should be able to play a few games in a week from time to time just let them recuperate between games. Lets look after the international break our strongest side would have got 3 points V Cardiff and set us up in better stead for the Leeds game and again last night a completely different setup were 2-0 down early on and shot ourselves in the foot.
The modern school of thought that players can't play 2 games per week isn't helping here. Someone said to me yesterday that squad rotation is an essential part of the game, when I said we are making too many changes. What a load of tosh. It maybe is to some extent for the top clubs who have domestic + European games to fit in, but it isn't necessary for the rest. The sign of a successful team is one that picks itself and doesn't need chopping and changing willy nilly.
I'm only relaying what Hecky's said in his interviews. I've criticised his constant changing of the team on numerous occasions and then stood back and thought l'm in Finance and he's a football coach and a former pro for a reason.
I have to say that based on what I saw against Leeds, I was really surprised to see Ugbo and Gardner starting last night, Moncur too. In fact I wouldn't have had the first two even on the bench. We've better players of our own who deserve those places.
McCarthy must play Saturday surely. Him and hammill seemed to have a good understanding down right hand side .Or even play him at side of Lindsay at centre half.
Totally agree. McCarthy and Hammil on right. Yiadom and Barnes on left. That would be decent out wide. Williams and McGeehan in centre. McGeehan slightly more attacking, but both playing the “full” midfielder role. Thiam and Bradshaw up front. Or even Hedges supporting Bradshaw. Only question for me is centre backs. I’d personally have Lindsey and Pearson. Although heard Pinnock looked good in U23 game. Give him his break. Get him forming a partnership with Lindsey.
Not saying by playing McCarthy everything will be fine but he seemed to have a good attitude and looked committed to the cause. In a team struggling at times for leadership on the pitch i think he good be a good shout for a future captain .
We obviously don`t see him in training but could he do a better job than Potts? Especially if Potts is off form and Mallon has been scoring in his last couple of U23`s games.
We just don’t know. All I can say is being any good in Under 23’s isn’t a strong indicator - Ike Ugbo.
