I'm on a 6 month tour down here and not due back until early Feb 16.

I've watched all the **** unfold from distance, being this far away from Oakwell doesn't numb the pain.

Merry Christmas to all Reds Fans all over the World and lets hope 2016 brings a glimmer of cheer COYR!!

    Merry Christmas matey...

I was last down the Falklands in 1992. I totally enjoyed my time down there. I was RAF and was one of the crew who marshalled in the "Timmy" and then prepped it for its return to the Ascensions & Brize Norton ... is it still Tri-Stars they use. Well we had a squadron bar and it was obviously called "Timmy's Bar" had some great nights in there... many other bars were good too. So you really should have a great time over the Christmas period... also then there's the Races at Port Stanley.. you should not miss that event fella its great. Do they still give you an R&R break at your half tour point... spent mine on pebble island , it was fantastic... the wildlife I saw was amazing. In my day they had no real TV as such.... they sent video recorded stuff and as such everything was at least a week or more old, so despite knowing the footy results via the World service..or call home, we still had to wait a week or more to gt the footy shows down there... in this day I guess with WI-FI that's all changed... anyway mate I am going on

Have great Christmas and new year..

    :)

All the bars are shut down with the exception of the naffi for the jrs and the mess for the Sr's

Well that's what cbfi thinks anyway!! :) proper good pub crawl in MPA, renockis has actually shut mind so you've got to box clever for an all dayer now, the logistics bar the cats cradle is the best bar there

The flights down here are contracted out to a company called Air Tanker, they use Airbus 320's and the service is very good. There are still quite a few bars around MPA, which has been renamed MPC now, I don't think the Army liked the idea of it being called an Airfield.

The tour used to be 4 months and R&R was taken locally, it's now 6 months and I got to go home for 10 days in November, took in the Sheff Utd game which was dreadful.

Timmy's Bar is still going strong, along with the Crab & Sprocket, Shady's, Sharkies and the Brintel Bar. I spent a tour down here in 98 up at Mt Kent, and it dragged like it wouldn't believe. This time round I'm down at MPC visiting all 3 Mountain Sites fequently, much better.

Right, time to sink a wobbly or two in the Mess ) Hope you all have a good one!!
