Best of luck to Steve, I think he'll need it.

One of my favourite Reds was Aggy. I remember him scoring a free-kick at Filbert Street, I was directly in line with it and he hit it so hard that the ball's trajectory was almost straight - right in the top corner, keeper had no chance.

    Great player in his time.

Seems crazy sacking a manager at this part of the season, when new incumbent can do nothing in terms of signings.

They've got too little firepower. Instead of strengthening in January they let players go. Hard to stay up in those circumstances.
Think we'll be seeing them next season at Oakwell.

I once knocked Aggie over as he was walking out of the old social club when on crutches during his long term injury. Didn't mean to honest!

Back in late 80s he ran a team in the Barnsley Sunday league. Can't remember what they were called though.

Also played against Gordon Owen a few years later when he was at West Green.

I remember the goal at Southampton ,in a cup game on a tuesday night, went with the old Man , we were not expected to beat them , as it was a cup game and the next round was going to be against Liverool on TV , but we turned them over and I then got to see the best player I have ever seen play on the Oakwell Pitch , that was Kenny Dalglish , although we did get beat, and i think Rush scored a hatrick

The criticism of Aitor Karanka has been that he's been setting up his teams not to concede goals. They've got about the 4th best defence in the league. The problem being Karanka has been too stubborn to deviate from his ultra defensive mindset and as such they just don't score goals. They managed a massive coup in my opinion by signing Negredo, but he's been completely isolated for them.

All Aggy has to do to be successful is allow the players to play with a little more freedom. Go out and win games rather than to not lose them.

Yes, I was there, it was 0-0 with about 20 minutes left when Clive Baker dropped the ball, Rush (who had looked awful up to then) scored and as you say went on to score a hat-trick. Can't remember who got the other though.
