I'm with you on that. I've travelled on that railway from Pickering to Whitby and back and everything that those volunteers do is just fantastic. What a shame that scum like this just can't leave things alone that have nothing to do with them.

It's like the cretins who wreck town centre flower displays or benches. The problem is that punishments are just not appropriate to the crimes they commit.

What a pathetic response! Did you actually read that article?

Facilities like this draw millions of visitors from all over the world. Places like Pickering and Goathland prosper on tourism, and they come to see these preserved trains and carriages, getting a hell of a lot of pleasure out of it. They come to see where television series are made (Heartbeat for example). They marvel at the wonderful North Yorkshire countryside as well as the heritage railway that runs through it.

But you're right. What does an "old train" matter......

It's the same with the tossers who go around spraying graffiti everywhere. I don't care what excuses anyone comes up with but the police could and should find out the identity of those regularly committing these crimes and the punishment should be extremely harsh.

Won't happen though because for some reason we glorify a known criminal like 'banksy'.

That boat has already sailed. The sub-human scum breeding programme has been in full swing for decades.

Do you not think some graffiti looks good though? I don't mean a moronic chav scribbling his name on a wall, but some of the drawings show some great talent on the streets.

Graffiti is one of the things that winds me up the most when I travel in Europe. This country has a huge problem, obviously, but places like Spain are overrun with it. The first time I went to Madrid I was shocked at how many buildings in the city centre were defaced with it, even if it was some meaningless mark above a shop door or below the windows. The morons that do this should be spray painted from head to foot in a paint that will not wash off for a good six months or more.

I can't say I ever noticed anything like that in Madrid.

That's the problem though - there is a low life element in every society that doesn't give a damn about decent behaviour and values so have no right to be treated like human beings. I have no respect for anyone who behaves like that or supports others who behave like that. They are not human beings - they are not even animals. Animals have a code of honour and a place in the world. What do mindless "people" like this contribute to society?

    Yes and no.
Yes u think that it shows great talent and appreciate that but I don't think it actually looks good because it is largely out of place.
A prime example is the old bush Inn near Locke park. The graffiti on there is a great talent but it looks horrible because it is still graffiti sprayed where it looks out of place.
An example of what actually looks nice is the poppy/lest we forget on the side of the Manx/tykes bar. It doesn't look out of place.

I would encourage graffiti in certain places such as skate parks on walls built specifically for that purpose because it would be in keeping but anyone doing it anywhere else would get their arse kicked so hard they wouldn't be able to sit down ever again.

Maybe the authorities gave it a good clean up for your visit. It was endemic when I went a few years ago. Same in Barcelona, same in any major city. Same on the motorways bridges and noise screens. I just find it depressing. I can appreciate good art as much as anyone else but it should be in the right place. These people are not artists - they are vandals.

Its a beautiful journey and a lovely train. Me and my girls love it. As for graffiti some is beautiful art. Banksy is my favourite living artist the majority is ***** anti social vandalism. Important to know the difference though.

No. Get it on some canvas or paper. Art is so subjective, a bit like music, we don't all like the same.

Such a shame we have people that want to commit this kind of vandalism, catch them and make them work with the volunteers for a year.

Yes you weren't talking about people in the exact way hitler dehumanised Jews "subhuman scum" "less than animals", that's a sane and sensible thing to say about people that clearly have so few outlets and chances in life their reaction is to destroy to feel they have some sort of control. Calling me stupid is totally irrelevant when you hold such wretched views about your fellow man.
