Anyone know a thing or two about unlocking mobile phones. I've found my old phone in a drawer, and it seems to be in perfect working order so I want to give it to my mum.

In the old days, to get a phone unlocked, I'd go on the market and pay a guy £20 to do it. I've read online there's ways of doing it for free however half of them want you to download third party software which I don't trust.

Anyone know the right way of going about this? It's a Huawei P10 Lite, currently locked to EE, wanting to switch to BT.

If the phone is more than a year old, EE will give you the unlock code for free, as far as I remember.

EE themselves will do it for you. If you bought it from EE rather than bought it second hand then they offer a free unlocking service that's pretty much instant. If you've bought it second hand it's £9

Ah fair enough, is it a case of just calling them up and requesting it?

Brilliant, I wasn't aware of that. Yes I got it from them about 4 years ago, and upgraded a couple of years ago.

    Thanks for the help

In theory you should be able to login to my ee and do it from there but I'm not sure how that works when you've upgraded already because it might just try to unlock your newer phone )it might not though) but you can call them and ask them to do their magic

I'm doing it on the old phone, using that ones IMEI number, so I think it's fine.

The last time I did it was a few years ago, but basically yes.
