Villa don't play the same style of football as us. I'm not writing him off I'm saying he doesn't fit our style of play, we've built a team based on pace. It's nothing to do with settling in, he isn't going to find an extra yard of pace, we were way too slow trying to counter attack them yesterday.
I don't agree that Scowen had a bad game. He was one of the few players competing physically with their lot in the first half. His passing just let him down at times.
You're comparing him to when we had Hourihane. Hourihane had lots of great attributes but being lightning was not one of them. Once Mowett settles in he'll probably play far better. Hopefully. Just like those villa fans calling Hourihane lightweight, **** and off the pace may see more of the real thing once he's settled into his new club.
The only thing Mowatt has shown that he can do, is have a bit of a nibble...and he doesn't do that intelligently.
I think he looks as fast as Hourihane, who seemed to cope ok with counter attacking football. And my comment was more relating to the fact that you appear to have written off a player after starting two games. And what didn't work yesterday? I thought we drew against arguably the best team in the league at this moment. Can't believe some of the comments I've seen on this forum today.
Mowatt provides the punchline to that old joke. Late tackle I got there as quick as I could. He's a good player who I am happy that we signed. At the same time a lot of hard work is needed on his condition in the summer as he's way off the pace at the moment.
I think we just weren't quite at our best in the first half against a very impressive team, not because of the line up or the fact that Mowatt lacks pace.
