I think this thread is going to beat the famed 'is there a god' one. I take it discussion about the next manager was off limits tonight then? Be interesting to see if anyone manages to get Patrick pissed enough to reveal owt later on. Great effort by the WSB gang to keep us all posted - thanks very much. Obvious standout is the Stones quote - my gob is smacked. But, interesting comment re: "is the fans could run the club I'd give it to them." Maybe that should be an opening gambit in a sensible discussion about fan representation on the board? Surely there's a lot of skills that could benefit the club? Even if is only the possession of eyes that work.
Re: as if we would ever have believed that You 'sir' are a complete w@@@@r. You never have abutting good to post or say about the club. Why don't you **** off and annoy the wendies x
This was discussed at length. Cryne didn't think fans on the board could work now due to company law regulations but would welcome it in the future if legislation allowed it to happen.
Cryne was very gushing in his praise for Swindon and their style of play, wanting a similar philosophy to be introduced at Oakwell. This clearly explains the approach for Cooper. He wants the new manager to adopt an attractive style of play, to be used across all teams at the club, meaning young players come into the first team already comfortable with the system etc and hopefully reducing the number of mistakes. He went on about the Swindon keeper too, setting up attacks down the flanks or through the middle. Clearly really wanted Cooper and his approach at Oakwell...
Unfortunately there was no time for follow up questions on this. Seemed to paint a very black and white picture. It was either control by me or AN Other Benefactor or control by fans alone without touching on models such as Swansea's which is a mix of the two. Also stated that board members such have specific skills they bring to the board to enable them to legally justify their position but when pressed on what Barry Taylor brings to the party other than having witnessed previous **** ups didn't really provide any detail. Gave legal procedural reasons for not currently including fan reps but then didn't touch on successful models either in this country or in Germany where fans are board representatives and the system is working well. I thought that in this area Mr Cryne did not seem particularly comfortable and his answers were not convincing.
Just trying to get my mind round the enormity of all this. Stones: FFS, 2.2 million? Are they actually living on this planet or was David Icke right and positions of power are occupied by lizards from another galaxy? As a guide to the perplexed, which our Board clearly is, you can get half a million for a one-legged donkey with the ability and attitude of a yak. You only had to watch Stones move; some footballers look like Rolls Royces when they play - fluid action, total control, reading the game, always seem to have time on the ball, consistent ability. I was always a fan of Bobby Moore, who typified this kind of player. They come once in a generation, and Stones is one of them. Look at some of the recent transfers of young players of lesser ability; prices of ten million upwards have been realised. I could weep at the ineptitude of it. "We didn't know how good he was." FFS (again); don't you watch the games? There's eight thousand of us sitting there every match who have all played at some kind of level or other, and we know what we are watching. Mainly shino, but Stones!!!! Why didn't they ask a few of us? And as for Paulo di Canio, don't even start me on a rant. God, I need counselling after all this. I love this Club; what are they doing to it? (retires to corner to spend rest of day weeping.)
