On TV last night. Shocking to say the least.
I know it happens a fair bit but the low-life scumbags that murdered the poor girl deserved a lot longer than 18 and 19 years.

Death sentence costs more to administer than life in prison. Better to let them rot.

Never understood the way people behave like pack animals on anyone never mind completely innocent people just hanging around. The amount of graduitous violence was despicable. One of the most disturbing acts ever. Same regards the Stephen Lawrence affair. Wish like in America life means life. These people should never be allowed to walk the streets again. Their victims can't.

Plus the fact that at some point you're going to execute an innocent person

Shocked at that mate. Looked it up. Also the fear of the death penalty in America does not affect the figures. Figures show there are less incidents of murder in states without the death penalty.

If I was a murderer, I'd rather be killed than spend 30 or more years in a cell. I don't care how glamorous prisons are these days, being confined to the same place for the rest of my days would be far worse. I can therefore see why it doesn't deter many.

If Death Penalty re-introduced in UK any jurors in murder trials opposed to it would likely find defendant not guilty.

Can see your point. Wonder how the jurors are selected in America if some are vehemently against the death sentence in states where it's applied. ? Guessing the questions are asked when being selected. Used to be or still is the case that if anyone has read anything in the press etc about a case, they would be ineligible to sit for if influenced by the media.

I think some would agree with you on that .

Always get wound up when somebody is sentenced to ‘life’ in prison and they then tell you how little time that is!
Life should mean life, it’s not like the death sentence if it’s someone claiming innocence and new evidence turns up they are still there.
Pond life like the ones here should be put away from society for good.

Members of some religious groups are opposed to the Death Penalty on principle - I wonder if in the USA they are excluded from murder trial juries.

What about the many many people who were classed as pond life but are now found to be innocent after they were put away from society ?
Hardly think a pardon will be much good to em .

Fair enough Marlon but what about the guilty who have walked, after very view years ?
By pond life I was referring to the current bunch of low life’s who walk about armed and seem to think nothing of taking innocent lives.
Anybody who deliberately arms themselves and then are seen or proven to commit murder, lock them up for good .
There’s too much sympathy for the aggressors and not enough for the victims and their families for me these days.

I know what you mean mate and I feel same as far as length of sentences etc .
Life should mean life and no one should immediately start calculating how many years : months to take off their sentence as it handed down .
I’m all for punishment just not the death penalty . For two reasons
    1. We have a track record of injustice.

    2. I think they should reflect a lot longer why they are locked up and suffer everyday .

I agree entirely, they can have what they have in prison (which i don't think they should be pampered like they are) but they don't have their freedom to go out and about, I'd hate that.

Very true. I'm totally anti death penalty, but 10+ years in jail would make me want to end it. I suffer from depression & if I don't get out in the woods each day I struggle to get by. I'm really disgusted by some of the crimes that are reported & hope we can fund the police & social services better, to stop this **** happening.

Punishment no longer befits the crime in the UK.
    No deterrent.
Copper killed a mile down road from me last night.
10 arrested, they were all involved.
But they will all see the outside again in their lifetime, if found guilty and sentenced to time.

I hope the guilty get the full force of the law. The shambolic government we have had in recent years have turned their back on law & order. Maybe a crime in leafy Berkshire will focus their minds. I hope so. Up to now they have not given a ****.

I get your point but I think the cost to keep this kind of scum comes into it too. At least the death penalty means the taxpayer isn’t footing the bill to feed and shelter the evil b******s
