A top, top accompaniment to fish and chips. But don't put them on a Sunday/Christmas dinner ffs. Discuss
First off, the name. Mushy peas is what Southerners call them. When I was a kid, darn't Brig, they were always sloppy peys. For me they still are, no matter what my wife says with her posh Hull accent. Second, sloppy peys can be eaten with anything. I'd quite happily put them on my Christmas/Sunday dinner or ask for them at the Ritz. But I'm a bit of a culinary barbarian.
Tha reyt. Sloppy peys on fish n chips or a decent pie wi gravy n mint sauce. Xmas/Sunday dinner?!? NEVVEERRRRRR
Mushy pea pizza.... staple diet of the legionnaires...nudge nudge wink wink...they go amongst us ...lol
I really like mushy peas from a chippy but I haven't managed to find a tinned one I enjoy yet. I can tolerate Morrisons own and I hate Batchelors. As for the term 'sloppy peas' it makes me feel a bit sick inside.
Near the start of last season I was lucky enough to be chatting to Daniel Stendel and Chris Stern at an event at Oakwell. One of the other people in the group mentioned mushy peas, whereupon Daniel started giggling and Chris went red. Google "Muschi" in German, and you'll see why I call them sloppy peas when in German company...
Mushy peas are second only to Green beans in the culinary hall of shame, No, no and thrice no to either of them, ever
