Wakefield Pork Pie Champion Wins Ministerial Approval Yorkshire pie champion Nigel Hofmann hands out pies outside the Houses of Parliament to Mary Creagh MP and Food Minister Ben Bradshaw with the help of his children Emily and Harry 13th December 2006 Wakefield champion butcher Nigel Hofmann visited Westminster today to offer a sample of his prize winning pork pies to food minister Ben Bradshaw MP. Mr Hofmann visited Parliament at the invitation of Wakefield MP Mary Creagh, who raised his success in winning the ‘world cup for pork pies’ with food minister Ben Bradshaw on the floor of the House of Commons in November. The minister congratulated Mr Hoffman for his ‘tremendous success’ and asked for a sample – which Mr Hofmann was only too happy to provide! Mr Hofmann was in his full butchers regalia, and was accompanied by his daughter Emily (10) and son Harry (8). The Hofmann family were welcomed into the House of Commons with open arms - especially as they were happy to provide pork pies all round! They were especially delighted to bump into Chancellor Gordon Brown who personally congratulated Mr Hofmann on his success. Mary Creagh MP said: “I’m delighted that Nigel was able to personally deliver one of his famous pork pies to our food minister Ben Bradshaw. I don’t need any excuse to promote Wakefield in the House of Commons, but his win was a great opportunity to celebrate the quality of our local produce. “Nigel’s business is a great example of how Wakefield’s reputation for good food is putting the city on the map. He is the best of British and we should be proud of him.” Farming Minister Ben Bradshaw MP, said: "Hoffmans' pies are an excellent example of a quality regional food rooted in tradition. The ratio of succulent meat to thin pastry is perfect and produces a very, very tasty pie. It's fantastic to see the old family butchers going strong." "There is growing public enthusiasm for locally-produced food and food with a clear regional provenance. Government's role is to help producers meet this demand. We are doing this by providing funding to address issues such as distribution, marketing and the encouragement of new outlets. "Much of this support has been through the programme of activities being taken forward by Food from Britain with funding from Defra of an additional £1 million a year since 2003/04 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a former life as a sparky we used to travel all over the country and I remember a shop in Skipton that did lovely Pork Pies. People used to travel to get them. Can't remember what it was called. Anyone else heard of it?
Not sure of the road but i think there is a bridge. Memory a bit hazy and it was a good 12-15 years ago. Just remember the pies with all this warm jelly around the meat.
