Both are industries that employ people and provide jobs and leisure opportunities for many thousands - equally activities humans have to do.. Some like fishing and/or shooting (and some, very few, like lurking in reed beds). Without going mad it's perfectly reasonable to want to reduce pests to a manageable level. I suppose we're all a bit blinkered when it's our job or hobby that's affected. Veggies think the countryside is overpopulated with cows!
