It was a response to your opinion of LJ. Who has just signed that £5.3m random striker.

I'm Barnsley born and bred, Barnsley through and through, supported the Club for over 40 years now

    My opinion is this...

A lot of people use the 'IF' word a lot as if stating facts. IF my Aunty had bal**ks she would be my Uncle. IF take any slice of the past at any selected point we can compare it to today. We can therefore supplement a negative or positive position of our argument easily. What I know is I can't remember when we have gone into a season following a mid table comfortable finish in the championship and recent memories of trophy success. With the financial future of the club more certain. With new thinking from a new CEO. With real evidence of rebuilding new heroes based on youth, talent and motivation. With a manager that works our strategy well. Where I see our plan working for the good of the club and community not just the transfer and salary of individuals. So anything that thinks IF validates a position of fact.....

    .......They were wrong.

    As you were.

Thank goodness you're back Andy,I was worried we might have lost you again. Anyway,I don't believe in fortune telling and trying to predict what the season or even long-term future of the club will be. I for one can see a plan for the football side of things, which seems to be progressing well, off the field I have no Intel to make an opinion. The club has always made mistakes and at times can seem to be their own worst enemy. But,think about how much success Barnsley FC have had this century? How many appearances at the national stadium, promotions, good Cup campaigns. All from a small town Yorkshire club. The club is in a transitional phase, Football as a industry is changing, it's a uncertain future for all clubs, but I think the club is working hard to keep up. No one knows the future but lets enjoy the present because it seems exciting to be a fan at the moment ,to me anyway.

Also PC had to scrap ..the plan.. temporarily anyway, The club tried to go with the kid plan and was failing miserably. Cos we were rock bottom of L1, And then had to invested in Hammill Long White and Fletcher.. which blow our budget out of the water.

Ar they saying everything that went wrong at BFC 2 years ago was LJ fault ?. It was LJ that BFC would not sack... and would most likely still be here if Bristol had poached him. It was the fans that wanted shut not BFC

Getting rid of Johnson was the reason we were successful. Absolute charlatan.

So you didn't have any faith in the players who took us to one point outside the play offs at the end of January?

No one can say exactly what would have happened. We might have gone up, we probably wouldn't.

To state 'we would have gone up' as fact is completely BS.

I choose to believe we could have done it if we had kept those players together. Particularly if we had added to it.

I suppose that's what makes me such a negative supporter. Believing we can be successful.

There's believing in something and stating is as fact.

The beautiful thing about football, and of having a team like Barnsley in your blood, is the complete unknown. And it really is beautiful.
You could have team of £5m laikers and get relegated, you could have a team of kids and get promoted.
I'd hate to have the knowledge of what was going to happen. If we knew, Oakwell would either be a 25k sellout every week or it would be empty. It's the uncertainty that keeps me and 14k others going week after week dreaming our dreams, hoping our hopes, dreading our fears.
Who knows what would have happened last year if we'd have kept them together? We might have hit the playoffs, we might have gone on a reverse of the previous seasons run. What I do know, and it excites me, is we are growing, we are noticed, and we have a bit of vision. That gives me reason to hope this season will be another feelgood one.

What actually happens is unknown. Long let it be like that.

You are right, it isn't a fact. What is an absolute fact though is that we had a far far better chance of getting into the playoffs (and therefore gaining promotion) before we sold the squad than we did after we sold it.

    True....

....And we still may not have got promoted, resulting in our players all leaving on frees at the end of the season.

Which leaves us with the more solid footing for the future?

Selling the players and reinvesting or gambling that we'll 'definitely go up' and realising that we now have an exodus of players leaving on frees because we didn't make the promised land?

Port Vale? I think they were relegated, aye.

And like I've told you before, I preferred you on Coronation Street. With your Levellers t-shirt on.
