I stand my views that if PH wasn’t a god like figure at oakwell he would’ve been sacked.....his tactics, line ups and substitutions have been dreadful past few months!!

But in PH we trust.....I hope the new board see it like that too

I don’t think he would have. Patrick showed his hand by not sacking LJ.

You can only do the best with the resources you have, others may not agree but I think Hecky is doing as good as can be expected.

Be interested to know what you think he should have done differently.
substitutions: Izzy makes a huge difference for me, but has been injured and so needs nursing back. Up front his choices are limited. Mallan is the only player that makes me question but it might just be that he's not up to speed. I'm basing my impression of him purely on what he did in a different league.
tactics: would love us to play 442 and think PH would too, but until Moncur (or somebody else) learns to do the dirty side of the game I'm not sure we have the personnel. Wish we had a bigger presence up front but we don't.

Part of the swapping and changing this last few matches is down to the schedule and players coming back from injury.
Not saying I agree with all his choices but can't see what he could have done that would be so different from what he has.

Hecky made a mistake with one of the substitutions today (IMO) but aside from that he's working with a squad of players that, at present, are not good enough at this level.

    I'm still fully behind him.

    I’m totally behind him

His task to keep us up is almost f’king impossible given our resources compared to the rest of the league and the fact that the team was ripped apart in January

It was his decision to push pinnock upfront today which got us the point.

I did find it strange that he took Thiam off but hey ho ugbo did nearly score

I’ve heard this a few times but no one comes up with credible solutions on who else should play & what he’s doing wrong. It just seems to be lazy arguments along the lines of ‘we’re losing so the managers ****’.

We’ve lost 8 of our starting 11 from the start of the last championship season & replaced them with kids who’ve not played at this level.

Do people never stop to think ‘maybe we just aren’t good enough at the minute?’. All we can do is hope they come good & hope that we can get a couple of championship-ready players in January.

What line ups have been dreadful?

Which players should’ve played but haven’t?

    Which subs are dreadful?

The squads not good enough, we’ve got more points than we probably should’ve done with how weak it is.

The players that have done well have kept their places in the team, Bradshaw, Williams, Jackson, Lindsay & Pinnock.

No one else in the squad has done enough to say they should be in the side on an almost guaranteed basis.

Most of the criticism is unfounded. Today’s a great example, people slating him pre-game for not playing Isgrove & Mallan. There was never any chance of them two starting today after so long out injured / out of the team with another game in two days time. It’d have been suicide & almost begging to get them injured.

Thiam. Never done 90 minutes for us & another game in two days time. If he plays 90 today he’s knackered for Monday which would leave us with only two strikers for the Sunderland match. Common sense.

4-5-1 was the right tactics against a physical Preston side who we had to compete with in the middle of the park where they also play 5. Battled hard & were the better team in the last 25 minutes.

4-4-2 worked well today. Stopped Reading playing out from the back like they normally do. Poor Tom Bradshaw would’ve ran himself into the ground after 30 minutes if he’d played on his own against 3 centre backs

Still waiting for someone to say what they would have done differently, given the personnel. Beginning to think it's people just having a moan because they're upset we lost.

Tactics - what formation would you go with.
Line ups: who is that is not playing that you think should be
Substitutions - usually goes with like for like (striker for striker etc.). I've heard him say a few times that we don't have the personnel to change the way we play during a game, too many similar players.

I think a lot of it is down to the fact that we fans simply don't understand the game, or the squad, as well as he does. Today for instance there was disbelief and even discontent when he subbed Thiam. Yet in his presser he gave a simple and rational explanation for that decision.

Can only criticise him if you’ve done the same job as him in the exact same scenarios, in my opinion . Otherwise your just pissing in wind, aren’t you ?

Not really. I've never been Prime Minister, and nor would I want to be, but it seems pretty obvious to me that Teresa May is making a pretty big **** of running the country.

Let’s not forget too that Hecky put Pinnock on up front and switched to 3 at the back to do this.

Something they worked on in training

And it got us a point in the end.

Maybe a slight knee jerk reaction after another frustrating game, pissing in the wind??? Not really, I pay my money year In year out so I’m entitled to my opinions, let’s be clear here, I sincerely hope PH is here for many years to come but negative defensive line ups at home is strange for a start, players in form then getting dropped game after is certainly bizarre (hedges, Moncur, McCarthy etc).

You can all say ‘well He’s working with a what he has’, yes he is but as a Barnsley manager he choose all these players and he spent the most a Barnsley manager has ever spent too!!

Managers work in a results based industry and his of late are nothing short of horrific, our new investors clearly have big plans for us, dragging us back out of league 1 certainly won’t feature highly on there agenda.

We go again tomorrow at Sunderland, play like we did yesterday and I think we’ll win, a bit more composure and probably a bit more confidence would’ve seen us be 3/4 clear by the time Reading had scored.......

I don't think PH is doing a lot wrong. I don't see the players in training, I don't think about the implications of a 50+ game season, I don't know who's carrying knocks, I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, I don't know...a whole host of things that are relevant to tactics and team selections.
I do know that no coach sets up to lose games or pick teams to do the same. I do know that when the board loses faith in a coach, the push comes soon after.
    I leave it to board.

I know you were hammered but I still will never understand this weird obsession that some people have with believing you can only comment on something you have personally done. I've never been president of America but I know Donald trump is a prick

Yep. I'm no plumber, but I know that ours definitely did something wrong when I got a phone call from the bloke downstairs saying that he had water cascading into his bathroom through the ceiling.

Am sure PH will be judged on his record... but on a level playing field. His record in the last 12 months as been appalling.
But circumstances have been against him.. The plan, for one, and sub-standed dealing in the transfer market, which Hecky is still mentioning .. as recently as his last interview..

I don’t agree with your original post and now you’ve said moncur was dropped despite being in form I know you’ve been on the sauce!! :)

You won't get a answer tried this with a friend of mine yesterday just kept saying look at the run of form he picks the team makes substitutions ect. So I ask what is it You think should be done differently. No answer just we can't carry on like this.
Where we were after those draws with Norwich and sheff weds was astonishing to me. I was totally shocked we had managed to get so many points by that stage. Unfortunately it seems we have been found out. We are hard working and well organised but we are without any quality at all. We have a good coach and a poor squad and people want to sack the coach. Seems legit.

Seems to me Hecky's status rests on one of three premises. The squad is underachieving, in which case the OP is right to question why Hecky is still in post. The other two premises are that the squad is where we would expect them to be or overachieving in which Hecky is doing the job he's paid to do. Given we lost Hourihane, Winnall, Scowen, Watkins and Roberts in the last 12 months then, in my opinion I'm surprised we've defied gravity so long and think with some canny recruitment in January we'll retain our Championship status by the end of the season.
