Article from BMJ a couple of months back by Royal College of Physicians calling for all drugs to be decriminalised: https://www.bmj.com/content/361/bmj.k1832
I've said this before, but I'm a firm advocate for not only decriminalization of drugs, but for the government to remove any financial rewards from the illegal drug industry by importing/making the drugs and selling direct to those that wish/need to partake. Don't get me wrong, drugs are (in general) bad for your long term health, and I include nicotine and alcohol in that - and I've lost at least two friends/acquaintances through drug use, but people will for whatever reason always want to take drugs and so we should make it as safe as we can for those that go down that route. How many people are in prison, or killed/injured each year through their involvement with dealing drugs or the associated gang violence, and what proportion of criminality (mugging/burglary) are performed by addicts needing their next fix? Seems to me like it would remove a few of the issues that society faces.
I'm not necessarily advocating full legalisation, but to stop all debate is poor. It should be debated properly and mps should have a free vote. There are lots of issues, but home secretaries on both sides of the house have swept it under the carpet
Legalise it, tax it, get the Police doing something useful with their time. What's not to like about that plan? Good on him.
The War On Drugs has been less successful than our 2017-18 campaign in the Championship & a lot more costly. The band of the same name are OK.
