I don't think we're nailed on for relegation. I think we're going to struggle, but I think other teams are going to struggle too. You don't have to be a good team to avoid relegation, you just have to amass more points than three others. We may, we may not. Losing matches is part and parcel of supporting a football team. As are bad performances. Saturday was a particularly bad one, but they happen. Losing matches and playing badly isn't a fun thing, it doesn't make for good weekends, but it's not a big deal in the long run.And I don't mean in life, I mean supporting a club. Teams have bad season and bounce back. For me, the amount of money brought in from the sale of players compared to the amount spent, when it was promised, time and again, that all money made from player sales will be reinvested in the squad is a big deal. Having only one player capable of playing the role of lone striker when that's how we're set-up to play is, to me, a big deal. What exacerbates that is that lone striker is not even where Woodrow is most effective. Having only one defensive midfield player on the books who was injured before the season even began, when we have such an inexperienced defence crying out for someone to shield them is a big deal. Having such inexperience in the heart of the defence is a big deal. Diaby looks to have talent, but he desperately needs someone who has played a lot more football than he has to help guide that talent, stood beside him every day in training and on match days talking to him. Although this may be a moot point for the moment if his injury is a bad one. I hope not. Not only does he look a good prospect, he also seems to care and comes across as a decent kid. Having such a threadbare squad after the millions and millions we've made from player sales over the last few seasons is a big deal. Conway's now infamous best transfer window ever isn't all that big a deal. It's typical American hyperbole. But believing it is a big deal. It all adds up to the owners not knowing what's required. Or worse, knowing, but not addressing it. There's some talent in the team, but very little confidence, experience or cohesion. We're way down on numbers. It's going to be very difficult but that doesn't mean we will be relegated. I do think it means those in charge should be doing a much better job of explaining their decisions though. It's not the best transfer window we've had Paul, it's a long way short, in fact it's a very poor one. We've lost good players and replaced them with inexperience. We're critically short of cover right down the spine of the team. Give us some credit and be a bit more realistic with your addresses.
Probably one of the best pieces of writing I’ve seen on this board for a while. Airs the concerns of the fanbase (and coaching staff) while also maintaining a sense of optimism that at the minute is what the board is lacking. Top stuff.
