“I might make a few changes. I want to change the way we play with the ball and I want to change the way we play without the ball”

    Nothing drastic then!

To be fair, that's only two changes. ;)

It will be interesting to notice any changes in style , Chris Wilder sets his teams up in a very organised way when they havn"t got the ball & a totally different pattern with the ball , I know they are struggling at the moment but his disciplined approach to 2 different technique"s has brought them a lot of success

I’d go for that change as well. We should adopt the Dave Bassett philosophy of “you can score as many as you like so long as we score one more”.

I agree, you score 4 we'll score 5. It's definitely got to be the way to go :)

I'd settle for 1 nil scrappy wins for the next dozen games or so.

I don't remember us coming out best too often in high scoring games under Bassett.

We lost 3-2 to Palace. We also had a few 2-2 draws and drew 3-3 with Sheff Utd. Did we lose 4-3 to Nottingham Forest in 2000 too?

Could counter that though with several 3-2 victories, 4-2 victories, even a 5-1 and a 6-0!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1999–2000_Barnsley_F.C._season

The 4-3 Defeat to Notts Forest, was the beginning of the end for Bassett in the season after the Playoff final defeat to Ipswich. We seamed to lose all focus and confidence after that and he was sacked just before Christmas in 2000.

I heard he got the boot because he wanted a role higher up than manager.

There was some talk about a Director of football around that time, but I think he got sacked because we had "gone off the boil" so to speak and we were out of contention of the playoffs. Then came Nigel Spackman after Big Eric held the reigns for a month. It's been mostly downhill since then in the Championship I'm afraid

I never heard anything of that nature myself & from a personal view I thought it was a fantastic spell under Bassett , only the Ipswich reversal at Wembley prevented it from being golden , goals galore , exciting matches with decent quality championship players & a first time trip to Wembley to watch the Reds , I say thanks Dave & I wish we could turn the clock back to that period again .

He certainly gave us football that we weren't all necessarily expecting from him.A great period of football as you say and we were so so close to goimg up again.
