Just watching them against Huddersfield. You've got to love how they come over all "Billy big ********" in the championship with their attendances and large away followings, but when they get back up to the premier league they struggle to be even bang average. For the size of attendance, facilities and supposed fanatical attitude, they've got to be one of the least successful clubs in the top division.
Their fans are unbearably arrogant considering they have won as much as, well, us. I've been alive since 1978 and they've won zip. They're no Sheffield United in terms of how easy it is to loathe them, but I do enjoy seeing them lose.
Look at the sheer joy on the Town fans faces at the final whistle ,that signalled their 1-0 win. I'm jealous. I want some of that at Oakwell.
I think that each one of their losses should be met with the removal of 2 hilarious reality TVs stars from the region. Hopefully by Christmas it would remove my urge to damage my own entertainment equipment with my trusty left boot on a daily basis. Now let's get mortal
Fair point DT. I watched the Man City v Everton game last night. The advertising hoardings showed adverts for Etihad Airways, a Chinese Tyre Company ( spelt Tire) and there was one completely in Chinese. It's the way the game is going as there is a massive market for English football in both Asia and the UAE. Thai based drinks Company Carabao are sponsoring the League Cup and the next round of the competition is being drawn in Beijing at 11-15am on Thursday morning ( 4-15am UK time). The draw is not available on TV over here. If we want to know who will play who, we would have to look on the Carabao Cup Twitter feed. In defending their decision to conduct the draw in Beijing , an EFL spokesperson has said " Our decision to go to China is part of a strategic plan to grow the EFL internationally and a number of meetings are being held around the draw that we envisage will deliver a benefit to all 72 clubs of the EFL."
Cheers for that Donny. That sounds really interesting ,be nice if we could get a fair way in this competition ,gets us more publicity in China especially if we could knock one of the big boys out.
Whats up with holding the draw at lunchtime UK time, which would be 7-8pm in China. We would get it live then, and so would the Chinese if they want it.
The enthusiasm for this competition in this country is now barely lukewarm with some of the bigger Clubs opting to field reserve players in their line-ups. Chinese football is having millions pumped into it and there are players who graced the Premiership plying their trade over there i.e. Tevez, Ba, Diarra, Mikel, Cisse, Pelle etc. so there is massive interest in English football in Asia and Carabao are obviously capitalising on that. If we are taken over by this Consortium I see from their publicity they are into real estate and tourism. The Chinese as a nation love England and its places of historical interest. Ally that to their love of football it's not beyond the realms that if we do get to the Premiership the opportunities for our new owners could be absolutely limitless. Were we to sign some of China's top talent they could probably offer package tours. A lot of tour companies use the hotels at London Heathrow. Conducted tours of London could be offered, then travelling North they could visit to Windsor Castle or Stratford upon Avon. York would be a must and flights to Edinburgh from Manchester would not be out of the question. Loch Ness is also a popular tourist spot for the Chinese. Once back in Barnsley based at their newly furbished luxury Hotel, tourists could take in the Hudson Taylor tour and then on Saturday wearing their replica shirts and Toby Tyke baseball caps could enjoy the hospitality in the Executive boxes in the new West Stand at Oakwell to see their heroes Xavier Chen, Yaki Yen and Ko Yu-ting take the field as part of the Barnsley squad to face Tottenham Hotspur etc. On the way back down South , they could take in a tour of Hampton Court Palace and once back in London on their final night they might opt to enjoy a West End Show before being taken to Heathrow and their hotel ready to fly back to Beijing the following morning.! http://www.jameshudsontaylor.org.uk/trail.html
But surely they must be challenging for silverware? With all the money and resources? That's what happens you see, can't compete with the 'likes' of newcastle.
