Hats off to those immune immortals that don't pass on infections rushing out to help out. Immune immortals that may be piling onto limited public transport.

I imagine those that need to use public transport are unable to apply.

There will also be very strict rules in place to stop the spread.

A think I’ve read you do yes, a think it’s app based so you turn on your availability when you like and see what jobs there are to be done in the area

Obviously i agree to an extent about budget cuts on staffing over the last few years: i've railed against it, consistently raised the issue with the CQC and become a pariah as a consequence.
You've got to realise though that the nhs employs 1.3 million people plus a hundred thousand or so agency workers.
The wages cost billions alone. The managerial structure within the nhs is extraordinary. There is lots wrong with the nhs but a lot of this lies within.

    Very Darwinian of you.
Leave people to suffer and die: hordes of them.
They'd die soon enough anyway won't they?: the aged and infirm or those with underlying health conditions.
    F##k 'em.

Use own car, be sensible social distancing. Call people in need.
don’t see need for your ridiculous comment when so many are dying.

Do you genuinely belive everything would have been fine with the NHS if properly funded? if you do I have news for you. Italy has a well funded efficient Health Service rated one of the best in the World. It is also supported by the national voluntary Protezione Civile organisation that is invaluable in emergencies like the Earthquakes floods etc as well as more local problems that arise from time to time. Even with this, as you can see, the hospitals in the North around Milano are buckling under the pressure. The low productivity in the UK and the lack of tax avoidance control means tax money is spread thin. Disappointed in your attitude to this to be honest. In effect you are playing politics saying because the Govt have underfunded the NHS you are not prepared to help. As regards charities not having the money, most are run as businesses nowadays and some of the executives pay scales are eyewatering. e.g......
Charity CEO salary (£) CEO name
Cancer Research UK 240,000 Harpal Kumar
    NSPCC 162,000 Peter Wanless
    Oxfam 124,000 Mark Goldring
    National Trust 179,000 Fiona Reynolds
    Prince's Trust 140,000 Martina Milburn

I’m not able to help as I’m already a key worker. I’m not saying volunteers wouldn’t have been needed anyway but it would seem way less of a cheek if they’d not been running down the NHS and cutting funding constantly prior to this. Of course CEOs get paid a fortune, they’re running hundreds of stores, thousands of staff, all funding, all advertising and all the actual charity work across various countries. I’d like proof from you that ‘most charities are run as businesses’ however.

I’m disappointed in your attitude to most things tbh if we’re getting personal, you seem to spend the majority of your day trawling through UK news sites to post rants about them on here.

    Nah.!!..I'm a fast reader:)

As regards CEOs... people moan about Politicians and MPs salaries and expenses and the PM has the responsibility of running more than "hundreds of stores, thousands of staff" but the entire country on a salary of £150k p.a.
The list I posted was only a small sample. Some CEOs of large charities are getting close to £500k p.a.and that comes out of charitable donations.

They're different people to me though, I've never once moaned about that.

I’ve signed up, just waiting confirmation been accepted.
I have to continue at work as we are in the critical supply chain, but we are now doing 3 days a week, so intend to do days off, odd evenings and weekends

The Council is also running a scheme to match volunteers with requirements to help, you can sign up at: https://www.barnsleycvs.org.uk/, and I plead with anyone interested in offering practical support in the community to do so.

I don't know what the situation is with volunteering at multiple places, but I imagine there will be a clearer split between roles of the different schemes in the coming days.

Although I may agree with comments on Tory NHS cuts and over inflated pay for CEO's this is my take...
Although Im already on the essential list it was my day off today..I spent it volunteering to visit 25 elderly and vunerable people and take thier medication.....why?
cos its your elderly mam and dad or grandma and grandad who need help. to Boris and co theyl be a statistic but to us their our own and my feelings aside I wanna help them...we can point fingers wen its ova....and wer all still here to point.......stay safe

How do you volunteer and do that without risking giving it to 25 vulnerable people? The only thing that stopped me volunteering tbh

From what I’ve seen, the idea is use gloves, leave it on the doorstep, knock and step back over 2 metres.

The thing that I don’t quite get is how people can pick up medication for a stranger. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they do it, but I worry about chancers. I know that some prescription pills go for thousands per pill on the black market. It’s different when a family member gets them, I just worry about it being a total stranger.

    Perhaps I’m being too cynical

Vulnerable or isolated people cannot leave their home. You deliver essential food and medicine, knock on their door, place on step, move back and wait until they are safely back inside. If they need medical care that’s where specialists come in with protection

One of my daughters work at a care home and she has to collect medicines for the people in there, she says it’s gone from a card, ID etc to just telling the Chemist the name in the last week

I figured it must have - that’s what worries me.

I don’t have an alternative, though.

I just hope there’s some way for a patient to report that they haven’t received their medication and more can get to them, along with the delivery driver being investigated. I really hope it doesn’t come to that, though. I just can’t help but worry about it.

work in the industry and PPE supplied for job.
being in that position gave up my time...trained in risk...even if you dont volunteer you can still do collections for people in lockdown.....put items on step. knock . step away 2m as Neilmol correctly said
