I’m not against that. Shame for the little teams that fight for that big replay at a big stadium, but I think overall it’s gonna be a good thing if they go.
Horrible decision that benefits the bigger clubs and punishes smaller clubs by taking away a chance of a lucrative replay.
There should be an option for the smaller club to switch the tie to the bigger clubs ground. Just as a one-off for this season, to help them through the covid driven financial mess.
Usually by the time extra time comes about I’d rather be at home in bed, not watching another half an hour
I think as a caveat for this season I would have maybe said let teams in league one and below decide if they would rather play away if they are drawn at home to a higher division side. Of course that's assuming we get fans back in. If we don't is the FA cup a viable competition at all?
Why not just scrap the initial 90 minutes and go straight to penalties? Another nail in the coffin. The FA Cup is barely a shadow of the proud competition it was, it's been disrespected by the "big" clubs and gradually whittled down by the FA itself in vain attempts to "move with the times". Anyone else remember the epic set of replays against the Blunts in 89/90? Consigned to the bin of history.
Agree. However, I think the powers that be want rid of the lower end clubs with capacities lower than 10,000 who play in sheds full stop. Secretly I think they're embarassed when they go to Canvey Island on national television and see teams playing in front burger vans, portaloos, containers n' corrigated sheds barely higher than the cross bar. Conifers taller poking out the back.
And the prize money has been cut significantly. Only £1.8m for the winners next year. That is not going to encourage the top teams (or not so big teams) to risk their 1st team squads.
