More competition than there used to be. Facebook and twitter provide much bigger platforms for people to air their views to abd don't require a separate sign up procedure Basically it's just the way technology has moved, practically no forum is as busy as it used to be. Also I've just discovered that my phone wanted to autocorrect bigger and kept changing the B to N. What sort of autocorrect thinks that is a good idea?
Owlstalk still seems quite busy. Had a nosey on the Sunderland forum a few times and that's quite busy too.
Been like it years, some months posts skip off page to make way for numerous others and sometimes they’re on days .
Most people on twitter and folk who I've spoke to the at matches see the BBS as a bit of a laughing stock. Nothing on the level of Tykes talk mind but im struggling to think of a time when anyone has ever said anything positive about this forum to me.
Some reyt lovely people on twitter though, that's just embarrassing on there. And the fact they can message the players. Rather stay undercover on here.
Transfer window completed & having a decent start to the season have probably influenced the amount of postings, should form dip then the amount of traffic will probably increase.
That is simply because the BBS is the largest most recognisable place where you can see people's views on Barnsley fc after the event. If you go on twitter and search for Barnsley during or after a game you will see some right drivel. Things that are far more cringe worthy than anything you'll see on here but because the tweets disappear into the millions of other random tweets they aren't remembered in the same way posts on here are. Same goes for Facebook, however if you look at the clubs Facebook page where fans comment it is embarrassing and that's coming from me. Go into any pub and listen to what is being said by Barnsley fans The abuse players get is much worse than you will see on here but you don't go into a pub the day after, load up the cctv and dissect people's comments from the day before. You don't find somebody praising a player only for somebody to nip off to the security room and return with evidence that 8 months ago you said he was ****. The BBS might be criticised by a lot of people and considered a laughing stock but the vast majority of those people have very selective memories or pay very little attention to what actually goes on around them
We could always discuss a couple of new topics such as : the Reds transfer window of January 2017 or maybe Brexit ? They might promote some debate. Thoughts anyone?
I'll start a topic of conversation. Until last year, I thought Emily Maitlis and Sophie Raworth were the same person. Anybody else ever confused two people like this or am I just a retard?
Some of the more prolific posters were banned e.g. Hemsworth Tyke, Thereev and some of the random and amusing posters ceased to post for some reason e.g. The Full Ponty & Adam Hinchcliffe. Others have been put off posting by the abuse and/or trolling that follows rather than reasoned debate. Makes for less debate and consequently fewer posts.
I know alot of the traffic is on matchdays and its good people who arent at the game can talk but i wish we just had one matchday thread to keep it tidy during the game. Can be quite tiresome seeing 4 people start a thread when we score etc.
I’ve been a member a few years now and dip in and out depending on work/family commitments. On balance I find it a great forum - funny, informative and in the most part friendly with members going out of their way to help one another. I don’t do social media beyond this but come across vile examples of what is posted in my job on a regular basis. Although it can get a bit heated on here it never descends to those levels and is simply symptomatic of the tendency to type things you wouldn’t say to someone’s face if arguing the same point over a pint. It’s easy to forget sometimes that we’re all on here because of our love for the Reds. I do have the occasional nosey on other forums where standards are much lower than ours . I also believe Admin do a brilliant job on here, exercising good judgement when necessary, a thankless task discharged along with running the whole thing. I don’t often start threads but will try harder in future, particularly if the perception is that things are getting s bit thin on the ground!
